AGM-114 Hellfire - Badly underperforming?

And they already have the right code in place with the AGM-119A, where the SAL should be able to be used to anoint a target where the IIR then picks it up for terminal support. as with other tri-mode seekers (AGM-88E)

also no romeo warhead

I don’t even know why they do this. Yeah, It’s an upgrade but it’s still not the right thing.

As expected, If they don’t plan to change anything then the AH-64D will just be a useless filler in an already filled tech tree

also we’re not getting CIRCM either, they wouldve mentioned it and it wasnt in the modifications. although i think they might add it

Found it

have proof, at least for leveraging the IBCF warhead from the -114R, and a proximity fuse (height of burst sensor) as mentioned previously.

Also if the document that this excerpt could be found in would be useful as supporting evidence.

So we’ve got following reports;

Wrong warhead + height of burst (proximity fuse) sensor.

Lacks SALH anointing for Terminal IIR guidance instead of IIR all the way.

Improved radar
AH-64E V6 Radar 2

Aw that makes more sense, I was wondering why the JAGM did less damage compared to the Hellfires.

Though is this accurate?

Sort of, it should have somewhat less penetration (estimated based off the use of a bi-conic liner, instead of the optimal for penetration trumpet shape) It’s still tandem warhead, but should have much better fragmentation especially since it also has a dedicated fragmentation liner, on top of a height of burst sensor (proximity fuse).

I see. Hopefully they fix it before the the update gets pushed to the live server.

In your opinion what would rank the new FnF agms from best to worst?

The correction(s) won’t lead to better performance in an Anti-tank role. As it may well lose the capability to penetrate NERA & ERA protected Turrets & ERA + roof layouts (like the TOW-2B was murdered when moved to the uniquely (absolutely Trash) EFP damage model) since the issue with the shallow Terminal dive angle are not corrected.

It depends heavily on what you prioritize, effective stowed kills or airframe survival, also as there is no speed improvement with the -MR as shown, you could be looking at more than a minute of flight time out to 12km+ (let alone 16km).

It’s much more likely that shots will be incidentally trashed by the target using smoke, it being intercepted by a SAM, crashing because of the lofting profile or some other means. So there may well be little actual impact, and with the lack of SALH anointing targets to keep them on course they will be confused by dead hulls as well, we don’t know the FOV yet either so it could be further sabotaged that way too.

Until it hits live with all of the reports actioned It’s too hard to tell but it likely won’t change the meta much at this point.

@N8AHbl4 will be creating an AH-64E issues/suggestions thread in the DEV section, start gathering sources about the JAGM
so far:

  1. JAGM should have Proxy fuse (Note there is info that it is not the HOB of AGM-114R but a mechanism similar to the AGM-114L-7A)
  2. Penetration of the warhead should be at least the same or higher compared to AGM-114K (There are some sources about this)
  3. Should have alternate SAL mode

Also APR-39E

C to M frequency, also better threat ID library of course etc

The E’s radar is also still capped at 8km and lacks the ability to slave and fire missiles to it like TWS radars can currently.

It’s listed as a Height of Burst sensor, the only reason I describe it as a proximity fuse is that it follows gaming convention as set out by the 155mm M107(PF) shell found on the M-109s and many other SPGs.

The Army is continuing to develop software enhancements to improve height-of-burst lethality

And the reasoning for using the -114R as a reference is that it shares the same warhead, so terminal performance should be expected to be similar.

Also worth noting the extreme dive angle.

Do we have any Primary sources on it, that confirm this? The Cross sections most certainly have the IBFS warhead inherently worse off by cross referencing cut-aways of the warhead(s) and textbooks.

JAGM lacks the HOB sensor and uses its MMW radar as proximity fuse.

There is a presentation slide with quote “Exceeds Heavy Armor penetration capability of current Hellfire variants”

Why would they give a Proxy Fuse ATGM to a helicopter that isn’t Russian?

anyone know why the JAGM doesnt loft particularly aggressively while the LMUR lofts like crazy?

Did a thing

Did more things

I wonder if Spikes or Hellfires will have their lofting corrected now
