Currently, in War Thunder Ground Battles, players must choose their ammunition loadout before the match begins. Once the match has started, there is no way to change the shell composition, it only reloads at captured point or those ammunition boxes that were added to SPAAs.
My suggestion is to allow players to adjust their ammunition composition during the battle at captured points.
How It Would Work
- When you open the large map (the one showing capture zones, teammates, and, on the left, your shell loadout), you could also adjust the number and types of shells you carry.
- These adjustments would only be possible while inside a friendly capture point.
- Example:
- You spawn with 12 APFSDS shells.
- Later, at a captured point, you decide you want some HE shells.
- You open the loadout menu, adjust to 8 APFSDS + 4 HE, and your tank is resupplied accordingly.
Why This Would Be Useful
- Adds flexibility and realism: crews in real combat could resupply with different shells depending on the situation.
- Prevents being “stuck” with the wrong shell type after encountering unexpected enemy vehicles.
- Makes capture points more meaningful, beyond just ticket bleed.
Balance Considerations
- Reloading/adjusting shells should take time (same as current ammo replenishment).
- Can only be done inside a captured zone, not anywhere on the map.
Conclusion
This feature would provide more tactical choice, enhance realism, and increase the importance of capture points.

+1, who wouldn’t want this?
So goated, def need this, being able to have a single round in your tank while camping the cap is gold.
But that is just one of the many thing I can think of doing if this was a feature

+1 I think I could just bring stuff like solid shot in downtiers and if I see heavy armour then load up on that sweet-sour APDS
so you change your ammo preselection in the menu during the battle, and the system would allow to load it at capture points? +1

Sure, it’d be nice to have such a thing available, but if I’m being honest I think most players will skip over this entirely.
id like to be able to remove the full smoke shells i accidentally took because i just unlocked them

i like shooting shermans through the antenna bracket because its funny to see people think they are safe around a building while angled. doesnt hit ammo sadly but is a good insult

Lol, my trolling spot is the cupola or MG port

MG port is a bit unoriginal, I try shooting through both the Driver and MG gunners bumps in the forward hull. Just to say a more sour insult to them
I really don’t see the use case for this (just bring the types of ammo you need, people make mountains out of molehills when it comes to optimizing ammo racks) but I guess there’s not really that much of an issue besides misallocated development resources. Still much rather be able to replenish FPE at cap zones if they were to get one change…
lol, mg port is the oldest trick in book. Cupola? No one sees it coming. With Pz.IV I like killing them with an APCR round, just as an extra “f*ck u”
if I don’t one tap, next shot will be APCR

Sometimes against a King Tigers when playing with with a 17pdr gun, I will try knock out their gunner then kill most of the crew through the UFP. Yesterday I had a task of getting 2 kills with an SPG, first game I load up, Greece map, 3 kills, 2 were UFP and one was an overpressure using the FV4005. 1 case, perhaps my first kill, I hit his UFP closer to the driver and KOed him and the gunner, granting the kill. I hate the 4005 normally but I loved it that game. If only the tank that cannon was designed for was built, even as a prototype
