Additional armour for M46 - is it worth it?

Like it says in the title - is it worth adding the additional armour on the M46? It looks like it makes me much harder to hide, and it is ugly.

Anyone have epic experiences with that cage deleting HEAT or something? I don’t so far…

Its utterly useless against anything in warthunder, IIRC it was meant to stop chinese/north korean hand thrown AT grenades in korea

It can be useful against early HEAT-FS, HEAT, and HE rounds. It’s very hit or miss though, and often times does more damage by revealing your position then good by stopping rounds

filter the worst of the worst sure but the mobility loss isnt worth it IMHO

Agree with what people are already saying about it being mostly useless (it’ll make Arty HE have a much harder time getting a kill shot and stuff like the bmp-1 gun struggles with the massive spacing), but there’s one other benefit of not using it that people haven’t mentioned. Without it the visual difference between it and the M26 is just a few minor details so enemies can mistake you for something with a much weaker gun and ammo
