Infantry can seamlessly integrate into helicopter PvE. Helicopters began to see heavy use during the vietnam conflict, supporting ground operations in areas with unprepared airfields and dense jungles.
Since then, helicopters have become a major component in military operations for most nations, providing rapid logistical and combat support. Adding simplified Infantry to helicopter PvE would allow for a multitude of new objectives that would significantly increase the playability of the game mode without a large overhaul of the existing mechanics.
What do I mean by simplified?
Basic Infantry squads that act as a single units, with each individual soldier acting as a module. For example, neutralizing a squad member equipped with an RPG removes the squads ability to destroy armored targets. The squads will always remain in a fixed radius, reducing the chance of the A.I bugging out and separating. The skins and weapons used would just be generic equipment from the appropriate BR’s time period. No need for specific nation skins.
Objectives involving infantry:
Troop transport
Medical evacuation
Close air support
Seach and rescue
Objective capture (with infantry only)
resupply
This addition would provide all helicopters with legitimate uses regardless of class or BR.
Would you like to see A.I Infantry added to Heli PvE?
At this point, it’s just wishful thinking. I fully expect helicopter gameplay to remain stagnant for the next 3-4 years, but it never hurts to keep trying. It would be nice if the heli gameplay didn’t just boil down to hovering and shooting missiles.
Armored cockpits and flak jackets would do a good job at keeping that from being a problem. I would much rather be shot at by a 5.56/7.62 from a few hundred meters than by 35mm from 3km away. Vietnam pilots would regular RTB with damage from small arms fire. You could also just take them out with guns and rockets before their rounds could do real damage. Besides, infantry would be more of an asset for objectives rather than a real threat to helicopters. That most they could do is use RPGs and MANDPADs before the entire team hits them with 50 AGMs.
