I would like to respectfully propose adding Persian (Farsi) as an officially supported language in War Thunder through full in-game localization.

This suggestion is not limited to translating only a few menus or sections. The goal would be complete and consistent Persian localization across the entire game, including the main menu, settings, vehicle descriptions, research trees, modifications, ammunition descriptions, crew skills, tutorials, missions, events, Battle Pass information, notifications, battle interface elements, help pages, system messages, shop-related interface text, and other important written content that players regularly interact with.

Persian is a major language spoken by tens of millions of people. Persian and its closely related official varieties, including Dari and Tajik, are widely used across Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Persian-speaking communities in many other countries. Altogether, this represents a very large potential audience for a game with the international reach of War Thunder.

While I do not have access to Gaijin’s internal statistics showing the exact number of Persian-speaking War Thunder players, there is clearly an active Persian-speaking gaming community. War Thunder is especially attractive to this audience because of the strong interest in military history, aviation, armored vehicles, naval warfare, modern military technology, and historically significant conflicts. Persian-language social media platforms, gaming communities, video channels, forums, and discussion groups regularly contain content about military games and military technology, and War Thunder is already known among many players in these communities.

The absence of Persian localization, however, creates a significant barrier for many potential and existing players.

War Thunder is not a simple game. It contains a large amount of detailed information that players need to understand in order to play effectively. Players must learn vehicle statistics, ammunition types, armor penetration, radar systems, missile behavior, aircraft controls, crew skills, modifications, research systems, battle ratings, mission objectives, event conditions, economy systems, and many other mechanics.

A player who has difficulty reading English or another currently supported language may be able to enter a battle, but can struggle to understand many of the systems that make War Thunder deep and enjoyable. This can make the learning process much harder than necessary and may cause some new players to leave the game before they fully understand it.

For this reason, Persian localization would be more than a cosmetic addition. It would directly improve accessibility.

A Persian-speaking player should ideally be able to open War Thunder and understand what every important menu, setting, mission objective, tutorial, warning, modification, and description means without having to constantly use an external translator.

This could be particularly valuable for new players. War Thunder already has a steep learning curve, and removing the language barrier would allow Persian-speaking newcomers to focus on learning the game itself rather than first having to translate the interface.

There is also a potential benefit for Gaijin.

Adding another widely spoken language can make War Thunder accessible to people who may currently avoid the game because they do not feel comfortable using English or another available language. Even if only a fraction of Persian-speaking gamers became active War Thunder players as a result, it could strengthen the game’s community in a region with a large population and a strong interest in online gaming.

Persian localization could therefore help:

  • Improve accessibility for existing Persian-speaking War Thunder players.
  • Make the game significantly easier for new Persian-speaking players to learn.
  • Reduce misunderstandings involving missions, events, settings, ammunition, modifications, and vehicle information.
  • Increase player retention among users who currently struggle with the language barrier.
  • Encourage more Persian-speaking players to join the War Thunder community.
  • Expand War Thunder’s reach in Iran, Afghanistan, Tajikistan, and Persian-speaking communities worldwide.
  • Encourage Persian-speaking content creators to produce more tutorials, guides, streams, and videos about War Thunder.
  • Strengthen the international character of War Thunder by making the game accessible to another major language community.

There are, of course, some technical considerations.

Persian is written from right to left, so proper RTL support would be important for a professional implementation. The game would also need a suitable Persian font and correct handling of connected Persian letters, punctuation, numbers, interface alignment, and mixed Persian/Latin text.

Vehicle names, technical designations, ammunition names, abbreviations, and historically established names would not necessarily need to be translated literally. They could remain in their internationally recognized form where appropriate, while descriptions, explanations, menus, tutorials, objectives, and interface elements could be translated into natural and understandable Persian.

This would help preserve technical accuracy while still making the game accessible.

The quality of the translation would also be important. A good Persian localization should not simply be a literal machine translation. Military terminology, aviation terminology, armored warfare terminology, and technical descriptions require careful translation so that the meaning remains accurate.

If translation resources are a concern, I believe many members of the Persian-speaking War Thunder community would also be willing to help identify translation errors, suggest more accurate terminology, and provide feedback during localization testing. Community feedback could help improve the quality of the localization over time.

I also understand that introducing a new language creates ongoing work. Every major update adds new vehicles, weapons, mechanics, events, interface elements, and descriptions that would also need to be translated. Nevertheless, War Thunder is a continuously developing international game, and language support is a long-term investment that can continue benefiting both existing and future players.

It is also important to emphasize that this suggestion is not asking for Persian content to replace English or any other existing language. Persian would simply become another optional language that players could select from the game’s language settings, just like the other supported languages.

Players who prefer English would experience no change, while Persian-speaking players would gain a much more accessible way to enjoy the game.

For many players, being able to experience a game in their native language creates a stronger connection with that game. It makes complicated systems easier to understand, makes tutorials more useful, and makes the overall experience feel more welcoming.

War Thunder has grown into a global game with players from many countries and linguistic backgrounds. Adding Persian would be another meaningful step toward making the game accessible to an even broader international audience.

I sincerely hope Gaijin and the War Thunder development team will consider the potential value of full Persian (Farsi) localization.

Even if implementation cannot happen immediately, I would be very grateful if this suggestion could be considered by the development team for a future update or localization roadmap.

I also encourage other Persian-speaking players, and anyone who supports expanding War Thunder’s language accessibility, to vote in this poll and share their thoughts. Community feedback would help demonstrate whether there is meaningful demand for Persian language support.

Thank you to the War Thunder developers, community managers, moderators, localization teams, and everyone involved in maintaining and improving the game.

I respectfully ask Gaijin to consider adding full Persian (Farsi) language support to War Thunder.

Are there iranians in western countries struggling with English? When it comes to those in middle east, obviously i understand. I don’t know how good education looks like in mentioned countries.
