Joking aside, I think it would really help with coordination on the battlefield, something like the task force radio in Arma 3. In a scenario where you need to coordinate quickly with other squads or armored vehicles in the area, text chat or quick voice messages are not sufficient
COD flashbacks*
War thunder players is like the average MW2 lobby.
Would be perfect if they could add it with a really small proximity. Would be hilarious to hear people shout slurs as you zoom past their burning plane with a doppler effect.
we already have voice chat
I think this would be a great way to see the doppler effect in action
I really would love it, as there can be better coordination depending on the type of players they are. However, there are more whiners, trash talkers, yelling and screaming based off from what I seen on other games than proper communications. If Gaijin does set this without the need of a squad and the whole team can VC, better have it off as default. I donāt want to hear kids yelling or some dude being negative if I do have it on.
Itās just better to do it in squads or discord vc than in game imo.
The way we have it in WT right now ā the radio menu (T button) with automated voiceovers ā is pretty sufficient. Any type of proximity voice wouldnāt make much sense. Maybe for high-tier MBTs, but for lower tiers?
Here are some arguments against proximity comms in WT:
- Historical Reality: During WW2, not every tank had a radio. Only Germany implemented full comms for all tank commanders from the start.
- Immersion: Even with full comms, youāre not supposed to hear every single bit of info from everyone around you. It would destroy whatās left of the gameās realism.
- Audio Chaos: Even in 8x8 battles with a team stacked fairly close, the chat would just turn into a loud murmur mixed with engine sounds, making it useless for actual coordination.
Simple solution: play with friends and use Discord. Itās much more effective and keeps the communication clear.

Yes please I want to tell my LOVELY teamates what I think of em ^_^
This would be a nightmare to moderateā¦
I do not personally want any voice chat in the game.
What i would suggest as an alternative though is more expanded ping options that complement the current āattention to the mapā ping. Could be as easy as holding down the mouse click on the map and dragging it to the side to get a selection wheel of different ping options, like for example; āenemy hereā , āmove hereā , ādanger hereā , āiām on my way hereā , ātank/infantry/aircraft/vessel hereā, etc. Just letting go of the click and not dragging it to the side would still give the normal generic āattention to the mapā ping.
too bad it already exists (though i dont think many people use it)

This is only for pre-made squads. As in; when youāre playing with your friends. It is not active for all players and i donāt think itās active for the randomized squad thing that pairs you with a teammate.
It doesnāt work with the randomized Squad Member.
But it does work for your entire Squadron. When i tried it out i was quite surprised to find out all of the active Members in my 128 Member Squadron were able to hear me when i thought it would work for the randomized Squad Member and suddenly had a dozen people talking.
I donāt want voice chat. If thereās voice chat, people start expecting you to use it and stop using the built in auto-chat/radio or the typed chat.
This would remove WTSimās major draw over Il2 - being that I can have functioning teamwork without having to have people hear my voice and risk dumb drama.
Absolutely not. I donāt want some dude shouting in Chinese at me, or guys talking about how theyāre femboys or some other rubbish.

NO, Iād rather not listen to a Chinese person cursing at me because he died next to me and I ignored him.
What a bad idea, do you work for Gaijin by any chance?
We need voice chat for infantry otherwise it would be massive flop. Cant play the infantry without it and rush a building and type during that or real quick say guy run upstairs when u noticed him for a split second.
