Currently, in Realistic Battles, players can launch missiles or drop bombs and observe their trajectory in real-time until they reach the target. However, when entering Replay mode, this useful feature is not available. Players can only review the attack from the aircraft’s perspective or a free camera angle, without being able to closely follow the journey of the weapons they launched.
Therefore, I would like to propose adding the ability to track bombs and missiles in Replay mode, with the option to flexibly switch between different types of weapons. Below are two key reasons demonstrating the necessity of this feature:
1. A Comprehensive Tactical Analysis Tool:
Allowing players to track the flight path of bombs and missiles in replay mode would unlock an entirely new layer of tactical analysis. Instead of just seeing the final result (hit or miss), players could observe the detailed trajectory of their ordnance. From this, they could understand exactly why a missile was successfully dodged by an opponent, or why a missile’s guidance curve caused the shot to go astray. This is the most intuitive way to “dissect” an aerial engagement, helping players learn concrete lessons to improve their skills in future matches.
2. An Endless Source of Inspiration for Content Creators:
For the filmmaking and content creation community (machinima), the point-of-view shot from a descending bomb or a missile streaking through the air is an incredibly unique and dramatic angle. Footage capturing the visceral feeling of “riding” the projectile would offer a cinematic experience rarely seen in War Thunder videos. This would not only enrich the community’s media library but also serve as a powerful promotional tool for the game itself, attracting viewers with fresh and impressive perspectives.
Proposed Implementation:
For this feature to be truly useful, I propose adding a flexible cycling mechanism between different weapons launched/dropped during the match. Specifically:
- Allow users to press hotkeys (e.g., Up/Down arrow keys) to cycle the camera between all bombs and missiles launched by that player that are still active within the replay timeframe.
- Display technical specifications of the weapon being tracked (speed, remaining distance, time of flight) similar to the “Sensor vision” feature previously updated.
- Add filter options so players can track only missiles or only bombs, avoiding clutter when there are too many projectiles simultaneously.
