Its not that simple radar wise. Pantsir track radar has TWS. Dunno about search, but in ADATS case search radar has TWS.
As for cue to radar. Gaijin seems to belive systems with E/O are unable to do so (dont ask me why), so untill they acknowledge that is not the case, we are stuck.
You are wiser than me when it comes to this stuff. Even if it’s questionable at least do it for balancing. They’ve added the KH38MT with almost nothing other than marketing b/s and no proof it was actually even tested

“Not a bug. All vehicles with tracking radar can lock from the 3rd person view.” This was the bug manager’s response, does this person even play this game?
He is true tho. I think all of them do.
I have to go to first person view in order to lock anything in the adats
ADATS has E/O track, not track radar.
Under main features it lists passive automatic electro optical target tracking which would make it a track radar
For target engagement, it’s handed off to flir and tv
Also I just looked at the radar in game, it’s I band in game, not X band which it should be.
No, Electro Optical tracking litreally means it uses a optical sensor to track.
This big thing
FLIR and TV are 2 modes the E/O can use to track.
X is in IEEE I is in NATO. They are the same thing.
Your best option for that is to submit a suggestion.
I’m not sure that’s 100% right, X looks to be between I and J. Guess it wouldn’t make a big difference in game.

Sequence of Engagement. The ADATS is equipped
with a surveillance/tracking radar but uses a
forward-looking infrared (FLIR) for target acquisition
and illumination.
E, no.
As i said, the search radar has TWS. That does not make it a track radar tho. It works on a different principle.
In game we do not have frequency changing, so for now it stays on one band.
Thanks you for explaining all that to me. I am wrong on previously mentioned things.
I think what I’m trying to get at is, targets should show up in 1st and 3rd person as unlocked boxes like TWS does for fighters but you have to manually point the turret at targets to lock. Does that make sense?
Yes. They should, and for a decent chunk of SPAA in game. We lack that as of now tho. All search radars lack this ability.
Gotcha thanks! Guess I have nothing else I can add
Shhh… Russian mains will still believe pantsir is worse than .50 cal
I believe (or like to at least…) that it was a balance decision. Believe it or not, but for roughly half a year the ADATS could lock in 3rd person like tracking radars could. Optical lock SPAA were super duper powerful at that time, so I think it was a balance decision. This decision was okay back then, but after the missile rework and then the RWR rework and addition of stronger planes, I think this ability should return.

18/11/2019 changelog:
Update 18.11.2019 (1.93.1.11) - Updates - Game - War Thunder
Note the lack of source, making me believe it’s a balance decision.
As ADATS can only auto slew in azimut, it makes it more realistic that you actually have visually locate the target in the sight, like the real gunner would have to. Gaijin has just not created a mode where you only slew in azimut yet which is why you have to look at the PPI scope and orient towards the radar return and then search in elevation.
I’m not sure how TWS works IRL, wouldn’t it give you enough information like bearing, altitude and such where if the sight where to slew, it would already be looking at it and the gunner just needs to lock onto it?
