HEAT preforms poorly in air. Hence why spaced armor exist. To over come this EFPs can be used to send a super heated perpetrator into a weak armored turret roof.
Yeah guess what an EFP is made by?
No it says shaped charge jet. which could be referring to an EFP.
Tandem is only multiple charge detonations. Something used to counteract ERA.
It’s funny you brought that up cause in your video it shows the 40mm shaped charge of the BILL2 not detonating the ERA.
In accordance with the data provided in Rosoboronexport materials, the PG-7VR penetrates 650 mm of medium-hardness armour after overcoming the air lock.
I.e. 650 mm is the basic characteristic of armour penetration - arithmetic average of the depth of penetration of the shaped charge jet, taking into account the air lock.
However, without taking into account the air defence system, the penetration can be even greater. So, during the BCCT tests (many years ago) PG-72VR showed very solid figures.
Along the course of the shaped charge jet, the penetration thickness of the steel control armour barrier was 800mm and 92mm into the witness armour plate at a distance of 1.6m from the main barrier. That is 800 + 92 given 1.6 metres of air.
40mm precursor penetrated 280mm of steel. I mean… You really think so small EFP can penetrate 280mm of steel? If I remember correctly, in Soviet tests, a 100 mm EFP made of copper cladding pierced a 100 mm plate, or pierced 85 mm and chipped on another side of the plate. Also in video it says “anti tank system doesn’t have energy to Neutralize the integrated ERA”. On 4:23 btw "it was initiated by the bill 2’s forward warhead
No, BILL-2 is most certainly a traditional inverse conical shaped charge design.
Swedish infantry training manuals for BILL-2 dictate that the missile must pass over the enemy target as close as possible to minimize penetration losses. That’s a pretty obvious confirmation that the BILL-2 uses a HEAT style of shaped charge.
The problem with TOW-2B is that it is hyper classified and there’s bugger all info on EFP penetration mechanics. Should it penetrate more armor? Probably. Will gaijin change it? Unlikely.
Later on the dinamic test both the rear and the front warhead set off the era, 4:00 and 4:50, so they both charges seems to be heat rounds, also i really doubt that an EFP can penetrate over 510mm of armor as it shows in the video, specially for a 40mm warhead with a copper liner, as EFP heavily depends of the diameter of the charge.
The test where the the precursor did not detonate the era is likely due to the impact angles.
This topic has been going off topic long enough. I will take most of the blame for that for continued feeding into it. Could it be heat? Possibly? I find it odd they don’t label the warhead as such while it is a fairly common label for munitions. I am still it the park that it is a some other kind of warhead other than HEAT. If someone want’s to continue this my DMs are open.
Please do as both @Thenighthunter and @condor777645-psn said… It is alright to give examples and mention other vehicles since the game is tied between them but if the discussion goes too far then just cut it or move it elsewhere. This thread is specifically made for the ADATS and its issues, therefore keep it that way.
The ADATS thermal is the same one used on the Apache(AH-64 i think) which has much higher resolution compare to tank thermals which mean that the ADATS should atleast get gen 2 thermal to compensate
and also i dont think gen 1 thermal with that resolution would qualified and works well against spotting enemies plane since the ADATS goals is to spot and accurately kill which it succeed at, even in quite horrid weather condition(sandstorm, winter, clouds)
Gaijin determines Gen based on technology (mostly), and adats uses either 120 or 180 (I don’t remember) common type module, that falls under Gen 1 in game.
They have an arbitrary Gen 1+ category of thermal that is allowed for helicopters. The AH-64 has the same optics as ADATS but higher zoom and resolution.
