A few years ago, the Panther II was removed from War Thunder due to its unrealistic nature (the 105mm Tiger II suffered the same fate).
In reality, while there is no documentation regarding the 105mm Tiger II, the chassis of the original Panther II was completed (it was a version of the Panther G with increased armor and slightly larger tracks due to its engine) and is displayed in an American museum with the Panther G turret installed.
What do you think about adding it to the game, at least as a premium or event tank?
Since there are Soviet tanks in the game (the T-44 122 and the current event T-44(FM)) that I can’t even find photos of online, adding the Panther II(G) wouldn’t pose much of a problem.
It would have the same engine power as the now-deprecated Panther II, but it would have a 75mm gun.
I suspect the T 34 100 will suffer the same fate as the original Panther II. The T 34 100 was tested but canceled due to technical issues. It’s available as a premium (it also has the same depth as the Tiger II, can penetrate up to 230mm, and has a 6.3 br), but the Panther II(G) I mentioned doesn’t pose any problems in terms of game balance.
obligatory why they were removed message
the panther 2 we had in game was a combination or 2 (kinda 3) different projects that never would have been combined in the way that they were in warthunder, the panther 2 project was cancelled a year before the schmalturm project was started (or the other way around), and yeah the tiger 2 105 wouldve needed a bigger turret
the t44122, t44fm. and t34-100 were all built and have pictures of them so they will not suffer the same fate as gaijins made up tanks
I couldn’t find it when I searched the internet. (I’ve also asked gpt before.)Also, I don’t know how long you searched for this photo, but it doesn’t refute my argument. If every prototype tank was added to the game, there would be more than 100 tanks in every tech tree.
T-34-100 was tested, being canceled doesn’t means it stopped from existing, since other people attached pictures of the existance of the T-44-85 and T-44-100 respectively, I can only help with the T-34-100:
The vehicle you’re suggesting there are already a proper suggestion post for it.
I don’t get your ignorance, what are the ‘Russian bias’ here? The Panther II in-game has a design impossible to be any practical, the gun breech is oversized and the rangefinder is clipping through because the turret is not big enough.
That suggestion was made as a response to the removal of the Panther II from the game as a more alternative approach for the vehicle to be implemented to the game, it has nothing to do with favoritism as you’re suggesting.
Just because you can’t find the photo doesn’t mean they weren’t built. People have already shared the images of these completed vehicles above, there’s also plenty of documentation for their testing.
The Panther II, as it was implemented, was completely false. It was a Frankenstein’s Monster of 5 different projects:
Panther II
Schmalturm
Panther 88
NVD
Improved Engine
None of the 4 latter were ever placed in or on the Panther II. A historical Panther II, the suggestion has already been shared here, is simply a better armoured Panther with a unique 75mm turret.
You have the early Panther II turret (Schmale Blendenausfuehrung):
Similar thing goes for the KT 105, it’s a Frankenstein’s Monster of unrelated projects:
KT 105
Improved engine (from memory this actually went into a Jagdtiger not a KT)
Rangefinders
So again, for it to be somewhat realistic and to be implemented you’d have 3 separate vehicles.
Tiger II (range finders):
Turret is a wooden mockup, but seeing as the range finders that were intended to be mounted were built it could fit the partial prototype category. It’s literally just a standard Tiger II with range finders though.
Tiger II (105):
This is pretty much it, it’s a paper vehicle. Personally I don’t want paper vehicles in the game. That’s what WoT is for. The turret would need to be longer to actually accommodate the breech and I doubt there’d be 2 loaders, likely still just the one.
Jagdtiger (gas turbine):
Sadly I don’t have the images on hand.
