I think it would be cool if the M163 variants could utilise the AA menu that the radar SPAA has, purely because I want to roleplay as C-RAM and the auto-lead feature of the menu would be sick.
ignoring the fact that M163s dont have, as far as i know, a search radar and thus making the whole menu kinda pointless, do you really trust the game to lead the gun correctly withnout any correction on your part?
I know they don’t have search radars but yes, particularly for the 5000kg+ bombs
even if you trust the game to do the lead for you (which i personally dont from my experience with using the new AA UI in any AA that doesnt have FnF weaponry), it still wont work as without search radar you wont be able to detect any air targets in the first place, meaning you will have no targets displayed in your AA UI, meaning you will be unable to lock onto them.
Even if they did added this menu, it would be completely useless: M163 doesn’t have radar to search and track, wouldn’t be able to have a list of vehicles nor a radar interface, even if it had, would be most of the time inefficient due to poor TV track system.
you lock onto them and then use the lead aiming (The auto lead for those in the back) haha
although they could just give an option to use radar aiming, that would be dandy for how I’d want to play it
???
what are you on about?
you can lock tartgets with vulcans track radar, either in first or third person. It gives you lead for targets up to 1.5km.
you wouldnt be able to lock them through the AA UI because vulcan has no search radar so the AA UI wouldnt display any targets for track radar to lock onto.
The top tier AAs can only do this because they have a search radar.
Clearly something is getting lost in translation…
Also
You cannot lock from third person, and it can give you a lead from about 2km, 2.5 if you’re lucky.
I’m still talking about the auto lead while in the AA menu, as I mentioned you would lock the plane from sniper view and then use the AA menu for the auto lead OR
They could give us the auto lead as an extra keybind or something, radar aiming was meant to mean the auto lead since it’s aiming from the radar information.
Search radar has nothing to do with the auto lead feature, that information would come from the tracking radar which the M163 has
ill admit, my bad, its been a while since I played vulcan.
okay but why bother at that point?
with the short lock distance AND short effective range on vulcan you will waste valuable seconds switchiching between sniper view and AA UI.
but it needs target to start leading on - and such target wont get displayed in the AA UI without search radar.
EDIT:
went and tried the AA UI with Gepard in test drive. It didnt work any differently when compared to using Gepard normally. If anything it was worse as it couldnt properly lead on plane that was slightly turning.
It’s kinda meant to be a gimmick, cool to add but a niche, kind of like napalm. I really just like the idea of C-RAM and the MLPWS.
The lock range is actually quite substantial, 5-6km so it would give time especially at it’s br.
The info wouldn’t be displayed if it wasn’t already locked, I get that, but I’m not bothered about that since I’d be using it for large bombs.
Here’s hoping:
I’ve got the AA menu bound to tab as these days I main SPAA, but adding a keybind for that specific feature would be more ideal.
And I mean, it’s a tradeoff, I’ve taken out planes with the auto lead on other SPAA but the fact that it’s less effective means it’s not gamebreaking… like those damn AA in Heli PvE
It’d be kinda nice. Though im not sure how effective it would be sense the cannon Auto aiming tends to not aim far enough to hit.
I don’t mind it being less effective but if it’s an error in the feature, it might be worth a bug report
Yea, the only Radar Screen that works very well in test drive is the Shilka and Stormer AD and even more better in an actual match. So most likely will work on the M163 if it had that screen since its similar to the stormer. The rest twin cannons (Gepard, Type 87, ZA-35, Marksman etc…) miss a lot more during test drive. However, against other players, due to them moving a in odd angles and constant speed changes, it will likely hit them more better. I played these vehicles a lot recently. Slow consistent speed and slowly turning air vehicles in test drive makes the Twin Gun SPAA miss easily.
Better to test the performance in actual matches than test drive.
