A13 Mk. II have the wrong turret frontal armor

The A13 Mk II turret frontal armor has the wrong thickness. All the A13 Mk II variants should have 30mm of armor in the turret front, currently the turret front itself in both A13 Mk. II is only 14mm thick. (see screeshots.) The Cruiser Mk IV A13 Mk. II and the Cruiser Mk IV A13 Mk. II 1939.

Both the A13 Mk II in War Thunder are labeled as Cruiser Mk. IV and all the Cruiser Mk. IV A13 Mk II should have 30mm of frontal armor on the turret front.

According to page 14 and 18 of Bellona Military Vehicle Prints series 20, the A13 Mk. II had 30mm of armor in the turret front while also keeping the ‘spaced armor’ of the turret.

Another source that also metions this is The war archives british cruiser of world war 2, page 15 of the book also says that the A13 Mk. II had a armor thickness of 30mm on the nose, glacis plate and turret front.

And yet another source is also Tank Power VOL. XCIII A13 Mk I/Mk II page 29 shows a armor scheme of a A13 Mk. II (Cruiser Mk. IV) and is also clearly shown that the turret Frontal armor should also be 30mm thick. (and not 14mm)

Sources:

What needs to be changed:

In order for the Cruiser Mk IV A13 Mk. II and the Cruiser Mk IV A13 Mk. II 1939 tanks to be classified as A13 Mk. II Cruiser Mk. IV the turret front needs to be 30mm thick and not 14mm.

Right now in game even the thickest parts of the turret front on the A13 Mk. II only gives a maximum armor value of 28mm.

So the turret Frontal armor itself needs to be increased from 14mm to 30mm

here’s all the sources:

In-game it’s 2 separate 14mm plates for a total of 28mm.

Inner 14mm plate.

Outer 14mm plate.

You’d have to prove that the outer plate is 16mm for a total of 30mm, or that it’s a single 30mm plate.

Im pretty sure that 1 is 2 yea,

Though I cant honestly remember if the other version has a 2 plate solution to the problem of lacking armour or not.

All the sources i’ve seen say that the turret front of Cruisers Mk. IV A13 Mk. II should be 30mm thick, the tanks in war thunder are labeled as Cruiser Mk. IV so their turrets should have 30mm of frontal armor.

I understand that it has additional 14mm on top, but that still only 28mm of armor and not 30mm. Also the additional 14mm plates don’t really cover the entire turret front, so some parts still only providing 14mm of protection.

All the sources i’ve shown state that A13 Mk II (Cruiser Mk. IV) should have 30mm of armor for the hull and turret front.

Oh and sorry i mentioned on the post and the reports as well, but i’m referring to the Tech Tree A13 Mk. II as well, that one has even less of the turret front covered by the additional 14mm plates, and most of it still only 14mm thick, and as all the sources state, all Cruiser Mk IV A13 Mk. II had 30mm of armor for the turret front.

Pretty sure the TT one is exactly the same, except for the mantlet cover. I’ll have a look after work and share screenshots.

Yeah, same on the TT version.

So for this to be bug reported it has to be determined if this is actually a single 30mm plate, a 16mm and 14mm plate, or two 14mm plates and the British were happy that 28mm was close enough to a 30mm basis.

tho it does, At least on provided screens.

The screenshots i’ve shown are showing the turret front itself, (the one behind the external armor) not the additional external armor that both tanks get, that’s why it goes all around.

this would be a good buff to the A13’s Mk 2, no longer having your turret front being penetrated by 50cals. would be very nice.

and also the cruiser tanks are medium tanks, it makes sense for them to have some ok armor, it would be a welcome change

And both plates add up to 28mm of turret armour.

You can see here that the chin is bolted to the original plate underneath.

The A13 Mk IIA seems to be when they moved from applique to a single 30mm plate.

So you need to prove if the early A13 Mk II’s turret front applique was 16mm, or if the combined 28mm was enough for them.

I still think it would be a good buff if the armor was increased to 30mm i died so many times in the A13 Mk. II because a single 20mm round got through the very tip top of the turret where’s only 14mm of armor and one shoted my whole turret crew :(

Yes i understand, but the tanks in war thunder are labeled as A13 Mk IV and in all sources i’ve seen the Cruiser Mk. IV are supposed to have 30mm of turret frontal armor.

I know. I don’t think you understand what I’m saying:

  • A13 Mk II (Cruiser IV): Is 2 plates. Either 14mm + 14mm, or 16mm + 14mm.
  • A13 Mk IIA (Cruiser IVA): Seems to be a single 30mm plate. We don’t have this version in-game.

The issue is we need to find sources on the early A13 Mk II’s.

I’m really sorry if i’m having a little bit of difficulty understanding what you’re saying but i think i get it, i’ll keep doing more research on it anyways. And sorry for bad english

Hey i don’t want to interfere but it says right there, "Armor scheme for A13 Mk. II/IIA (Cruiser tank Mk IV/IVA) and the figure shows 30mm of turret armor, so maybe both had 30mm of frontal armor overall?

Oh wow i actually didn’t notice that, i need to read things more carefully, thanks a lot

Issue is proving the 2 plates equal 30mm for the early A13’s, and the entire coverage the appliqué covers.
