Harrier II airframe is actually pretty decent. You can just about dogfight things like F-16s if you want. But the lack of IFF/radar does suck and really limits how you play it (experience from the Harrier Gr7)
God this thing seems like a nightmare to balance, those aim9m’s are gonna be cracked in GRB because of that smokeless motor and IRCCM but if it goes higher it’s just gonna be pantsir food.
Telling the difference between a friendly F-4 and an enemy F-4 is a pain in the arse
The ability to actually use the Aim-9L or Aim-9M in front aspect.
In my experience in the Harrier Gr7, you are quite often forced to wait until you can VID the target, before engaging it. Rarely do you get the oppotunity to fire before the merge because you dont want to risk a TK.
Smokeless motor + HMD IFF on the A-10C is going to make it into a sneaky rat. Especially when the AV-8B still has to contend with the screaming beacon that is its smokey exhaust trail (Bug report: Community Bug Reporting System)
Its really not. At least not in Sim. I miss it at 11.0 and genuinely consider the Aim-9M on the Gr7 to be the worst mistake they ever made for the British TT.
Especially as we have the Harrier Gr9A that has both a better engine and HMS yet to be added that could have gotten Aim-9Ms
Air… I really dont know. Even in Sim its hard to place. I think it could manage 11.7 just fine though. In ground… Its a compression issue. Too much is mushed into 11.3 and 11.7 No way Pantsir should be equal to the ADATS for example. If the Pantsir was higher than the A-10 could be a little higher but still be effective (im dreading facing A-10C in full uptiers in my 10.3 britain line-up. No idea how I’ll deal with them in teh Sea Harrier FRS1e or Stormer HVM/AD)
Oh right… Yeah… TIALD is modeled as Gen 1 not Gen 2 like it should be IRL. We are also missing 2x AGM-65s on the outer pylons also they couldnt be bothered to add Paveway IVs this update, so we dont get GPS bombs :(
It use to be good, but you just cant get clsoe enough to things in Sim to really play it anymore. Perhaps I need to give it another go. But waiting for even basic things like its Placeholder MAWS to be fixed first.
my poor F4F phantom at 10.3 might be painful to play soon… hell, even my KWS phantom might be in danger since its absolutely abysmal to dodge aim9m’s in the rear aspect with the phantom, as i have experienced at 13.3 with that in ARB
Phantoms should be fine ish. Just dont be sat in reheat the entire time. You can control the fight well enough. My worry in the Sea Harrier is that im hot no matter what I do and I dont necessarily have the speed to control the fight. Also basically entirely reliant on guns as MAWS will defeat Aim-9L with ease and we still dont have the radar gunsight on the FRS1
i dont see thermals being a problem, i’ve flew the kurnass 2000 today which doesnt even have thermals on a evening map, and i did fine.
as for paveway IV’s… well you are not the only one missing out, no gps for germany, no gps for japan, and no gps for france either (besides the belgian f-16’s, as a french main i refuse to say that they are a part of this tech tree), france could have gotten Armement Air-Sol Modulaire or AASM Hammer, which first variants are just clear GPS bombs. But nah.
Kurnass is a super-sonic aircraft with radar and IFF that sits at 12.0
The Harrier Gr7 is a sub-sonic aircraft with no radar or IFF and smokey exhaust that can be seen cross map. Also, due to the absense of a 12.3 bracket, has to be considered to have a 12.7 or 13.0 BR.
Gen 2 Thermals would at a minimum give the Harrier Gr7 an increased ability to VID targets from further away using the Tpod which would at least give it a chance to use the AIm-9Ms in an aspect other than rear.
Though honestly. Harrier Gr7 just needs to be 11.7/12.0 in Sim and not 12.7
If you are hunting enemy aircraft in the A-10C, then you are playing it wrong.
(though you could snipe people on runways with the AGM-65s)
How I imagine it will be used is much like how the earlier A-10s are used. For going for Battlefields, convoys and bases. The GPS guided bombs will be wiping out battlefields with total ease.
But unlike in the A-10A which seem to get attacked with ease. the A-10C should have far better survivability and situational awarness. The MAWS and HMD IFF will allow you to clearly see who and want is around you and if anyone is attacking you and the Aim-9Ms will allow you fire back with far increased potency.
You will still be vulnerable, but not defenceless. The question is going to be whether its too strong at 11.3 or whether 11.7 is better suited for it.
(you also have other things that probably need to move about. Like the Sea Harrier FRS1 should probably be 11.0 not 11.3 and the AV-8B+ might need to be 11.7 and not 11.3. Etc etc)
I could see it sitting fine at 11.7 but I haven’t flown it yet.
I also noticed Gaijin hasn’t fixxed the AGM-65E2/Ls with the update(annoying they haven’t) which would make it being 11.7 far more justified aswell.
