One Death Leavers (ODLs) have become a huge problem in Ground RB, especially at higher tiers. Players often bring just one vehicle, die quickly, and leave, which ruins matches for everyone else. Reducing repair costs hasn’t fixed this because the real issue isn’t cost — it’s the lack of incentive to stay after dying once.
the idea should be the same as SIM in air battles system
My idea is simple: your first spawn costs SL equal to the current repair cost, no change there. But if you want to spawn the same vehicle again, it costs 30% more SL. Premium vehicles require a backup to spawn again, so you can’t just reuse them freely. For aircraft, especially CAS, spawning a second time should cost about 75% more SL to reduce spam.
This system makes spawns meaningful. If you’ve already spent SL to spawn, quitting after one death feels like losing something, not just walking away for free. That mental shift encourages players to stay in the match and use their vehicles more thoughtfully. It also encourages bringing full lineups rather than relying on one or two vehicles.
Many players on War Thunder forums agree that repair costs aren’t the real reason for quitting. They quit because once they die, there’s no real reason to keep playing. This solution directly targets that problem by making each spawn an investment that players want to get value from.
Optionally, there could be small SL bonuses for using multiple vehicles or staying until the end of the match to encourage good behavior without forcing it.
Overall, this idea is fair, easy to understand, and could reduce ODLs and CAS spam, making matches longer and more balanced. It’s a change that puts skin in the game, so quitting early becomes a costly choice, not a no-consequence decision.
