A Plea for the Return of the "PLA Officer" Avatar: The Case for a New Legend in War Thunder

To the esteemed developers and community managers of War Thunder,

For years, the “PLA Officer” avatar has stood as more than just a digital portrait in our hangars. It is a symbol, a piece of in-game history that pays homage to a legendary figure known to every dedicated commander: Major General Man Guangzhi, the revered “Wolf of Zhurihe.” His name is synonymous with tactical brilliance and relentless innovation in modern military exercises, embodying the spirit of a formidable OPFOR (Opposing Force) commander. This avatar represents not only a specific individual but the essence of strategic cunning and respect earned on the virtual and theoretical battlefield.

However, as our game evolves, so too should our icons. We have witnessed beloved elements like the “Meritorious Tank” decal receive splendid second generations, offering veterans a way to showcase their legacy and new players a chance to connect with the game’s rich tapestry. The “PLA Officer” avatar deserves no less. It is time for this legend to receive its rightful upgrade.

Therefore, we humbly propose the introduction of a premium “Zhurihe Wolf Pack”—a special bundle that elevates the legacy of General Man Guangzhi to new heights. This package would not be a simple re-release, but a definitive, enhanced tribute, worthy of both the figure it honors and the commanders who seek to honor him.

Proposed Bundle Contents:

  1. Avatar: “The OPFOR Commander - Man Guangzhi (Legendary)”
  • A completely redesigned, high-detail portrait. Imagine a more dynamic pose—perhaps a confident stance with a tactical map in the background, his gaze sharp and knowing, capturing the piercing intellect of the master strategist. The art style should be bolder, with more depth and texture, making it instantly recognizable as the superior, “evolved” version.
  1. Avatar Frame: “Wargame Nexus”
  • An ornate frame surrounding the avatar. Its design could incorporate elements like subtle digital hex patterns (echoing C4ISR systems), minimalist topographic map contours of the Zhurihe training grounds, and sleek metallic accents. It should convey a sense of advanced command and control—a window into the mind of a modern warfare maestro.
  1. Title: “The Wolf of Zhurihe”
  • A prestigious in-game title displayed alongside the player’s username. This phrase, “The Wolf of Zhurihe,” is instantly recognizable and carries immense prestige. It tells a story of cunning, adaptability, and being the ultimate test for any “blue force” opponent. For the commander who earns or acquires it, it is a badge of honor and strategic acumen.

We understand the value of such a curated, high-quality package. We are fully aware that this proposed “Zhurihe Wolf Pack” would be a premium offering. A slightly higher price point is not only expected but would be considered justified for content of this nature—a definitive collector’s item that celebrates a unique part of modern military history within the War Thunder universe. It respects the legacy of the original while providing substantial new value.

This bundle would serve multiple purposes: it allows long-time players to renew their connection to a classic icon in a grand way; it offers newer commanders a chance to acquire a piece of celebrated gameplay history they might have missed; and it enriches the game’s lore by deepening the narrative around one of its most intriguing real-world inspirations.

In conclusion, we believe the stars are aligned for the return of the Wolf. The community’s respect for historical figures and their in-game representations is stronger than ever. By releasing this “Zhurihe Wolf Pack,” you would not only fulfill a persistent player desire but also create a new benchmark for special avatar bundles—one rooted in respect, strategy, and undeniable style.

We eagerly hope to see the legend retake his command. Thank you for your continued dedication to War Thunder and its community.

Sincerely,

The Commanders of War Thunder

Indian Strategic Studies: The Wolves of Zhurihe: China’s OPFOR Comes of Age

From a neutral perspective seen you have to distinguish between a war game commander (like your “Wolve”) and combat proven commanders.

Even as it is quite nice to see that a nuclear armed country does not invade other countries and bomb inferior armies / forces back into the stone age - the century old golden rule of warfare:

“No plan of operations extends with any certainty beyond the first encounter with the main enemy forces.”

…is still valid. So having success in war games says nothing about actual quality.

In any case: If this is major thing for the CHN player base - why not!

+1

If India’s strategic studies were really useful, it would not be defeated by Pakistan.

If you put it that way, how could India possibly lose to Pakistan?

is OP trying to claim a wargames general is of the same calibre as actually proven tacticians like monty and patten?

lol

There is a difference between being smart and unable to read:

It is just a translation…

trying to speak in a way that this very obviously google translated poster will understand.

Agreed.

Field Marshal Bernard Law Montgomery is assessed as lousy commander and General Patton fought with way superior strength of his forces. The quality of a commander can only be assessed if they fight enemy forces on equal terms.

👍

Honestly, I would like to see more PLAAF/ROCAF pilot/tankers, instead just bringing back PLA officer avatar.
