A map that’s long forgotten

I remember a few maps from when I started war thunder that I haven’t seen in years, one I remember the name of, the other I do not. Ok being White Rock Castle, and I feel like the other one was a Ground forces version of the Afghanistan map. I don’t remember the name of it, but it was a night map, had a compound, and a shipping container warehouse type thing around the building. Anyone know the name of it? Anyway, do you think we’ll see these again?

White rock was removed to be reworked, but that’s been about 2 years… so who knows if it’s coming back or not or if Gaijin genuinely needs years to rework a map lol.

Volokolamsk was gone for like three years before it returned after rework, where barely anything changed on it lol.

Never seen the big version again, only the smaller one which doesn’t seem any different.

Where is White Rock Fortress? The remake is taking forever.

There are no night maps…some maps can be played at night, but afaik all maps are more often played during daytime…
I am not identifying the map you mention…but if you played it at night if may be something only used at higher tiers…

White Rock is indeed not in play…not sure why…

To be fair we don’t like night maps simply because Gaijin has given us absolutely 0 ways to effectively play it. A flare that goes up just isn’t enough light, all tanks, armored cars, and heck even planes can see. With lights but they’re just not usable.

IIRC this map has been removed shortly after Gaijin crippled vehicles’ traction making any slope virtually covered in ice. That change, due to the terrain characteristic, rendered the map pretty much unplayable, unless you want to drive in circles…

Or gaijin should just revert the changes.

I don’t believe they can. Not anymore. They’ve messed it up so badly over time, that it became FUBAR, just like sounds and volumetric fail…

White Rock was a great low tier map. Gaijin should bring it back for 1.0 - 3.0

They could just change the slippery terrain…make it “normal”. I am not sure…but didn’t ash river had some of that too…on the bottom part?

AFAIK Fortress map is under revision…but i guess it is not a priority, since it has been out for a long time. I liked the map, but it was far from being consensual…lots of players complained that it was too far-fetched…at the time :)

i also liked this map - but I am afraid that if it was put back into game that all the interesting spots were covered with rocks and/or the inner part (citadel) is no longer available. Nearly all map reworks in the last time transformed them into “corridors” - maybe its too difficult to do this with the “white rock fortress” - … sarcasm OFF…

If you mean the A point, then I can’t really tell. I’m avoiding going down in that part at all costs, because it’s always been a trap for many vehicles. Sometimes I wonder if there’s an antlion hiding underneath the cap zone… :D

I still remeber the original layout with the fortress being only a part of the map on one side. The other side was quite flat. It’s been changed because only few lightest vehicles used the fortress for flanking, while most of players stayed on the flat side + there were other issues like very easy spawncamping with spawned vehicles having no cover at all (which would fit perfectly in today’s WT map design philosophy)…

Ehrm, ground zero?? :nerd:

Ok…the exception that proves the rule. My bad.
(Although…i could argue that Alaska map is basically the same…and played during the day)

TBH, ground zero is designed for the “dread” feeling…hence the “required” night environment…

Also my approach…once you go down there, it is not viable to come back up…hence me not sure if the slippery slope is still there :)

Nuh uh :3

And it’s seemingly darker than other night maps, too… With nooks and crannies all over, I’d say that hits the mark pretty well.

Yeah it was pretty silly. I suspect it’s just been replaced permanently with Spanish Fortress.
