Yeah, that is the only way to do it. But you can filter it down a bit as the first set of numbers will always be Airfields. On Denmark with 5 AFs (you can always see how many there are as its symmetrical with your own team) 0-19 (4x5 counting from 0 and each AF having 4 parts) will be the AFs. So bases should be 20+.
But yes. The CCRP selection is absolutely aweful. There has been suggestion for improvements in the past. But theyve fallen on deaf ears so far:
The system was added ages ago, back when it was aircraft like the F-105 and its just insuffecient for modern jets
I suggested to Devs to put TERPROM in the game (number of planes already in game has it), but a Dev told me that Wiki “isn’t a source” for what planes have TERPROM installed. :D
I just gave up, after that…
They just need to add CCRP targeting by selecting the desired target on the map, or adding the target number onto the map and then just cycling through to the correct target or highlighting the selected target on the map.
So many ultra-simple choices for fixing the system we have. But as always. The main beneficiary of such a change is SB as RB has third person markers that make it easy.
Id personally take the Ground Mapping radar on the Tornado and have the ability to see things like Bases and AFs on the radar screen and then being able to create a custom CCRP target point using the radar. Just bypass the entire current system
Oooh yes. In Desert Storm. They would use things like fences, radio masts, etc as fixed reference points and then loft bombs onto a target with an accuracy of a few feet. As per what I recall from the book “Tornado” By John Nickols (but it has been a while, so i might be miss remembering some details)
In theory, it should even be able to detect a tank if it was moving. Large targets like ships, bases or an airfield should be easily detectable
They also had Terrain following radar that would keep the tornado at 300ft no matter the weather.
Yeah, tornados need some tlc. Not the right thread for it, but hopefully Frist part of that is coming next major with the cm overhaul mentioned in the roadmap, we can finally get our missing 1200 chaff
The radar getting modeled would be amazing as well along with the FM finished
The guide does need some updates as some things have changed since I wrote but to answer your question. No idea. At all. Gaijin just decided that GBUs cant be automatically released by CCRP
I think its intentional personally, but the fact that CCRP works at all with GBUs (even with the manual release) is a major improvement over years past. You had to bodge it by running unguided bombs at the same time
i do know that, and i do know it might be intentional, but it is not historical at all, and it makes dropping gbu’s way harder then it should be in sim mode.
i get curious and just tried this in custom battle with av-8a, toggled on didnt drop bombs at selected base automatically… however when toggled off it disables “bomb release permission” and let me drop bombs anywhere
I used select mission target, weapon selector and ripple quantity …
it supposed to work that way or it should automatically release bombs when i fly over a base?
With automatic release selected it will drop bombs at the correct time to hit the base. But you have to have the right base selected and to actually fly over the base
Disabling automatic release means that you are responsible for releasing the bomb at the correct time using the cues given, but this does mean you can drop the bomb whenever. Even if you are no where near the selected base
it didnt drop, still have to “pull the trigger”
maybe it collides with weapon selector?
both conditions met, usual way works like charm (select mission target, align with marked base, select bombs and quantity, fly over base holding trigger and when timer goes bombs drop)
toggling automatic release just dont working for me and this plane, maybe im doing something wrong
