Play along the flat area, stay low in basins or the worst slopes (>11deg) so that leo depression won’t have any use. -5 is not -3, it’s useable in most cases and won’t be that frustrating 9/10deg where one will need specific slopes to actually make it better than 5deg.
GL smashing every single leo2 with one of our lovely Mango!
Those tanks are pretty one dimensional, it’s basically a W-holding simulator while having your fingers crossed your armor is going to save you in your brainless rushes. In most cases the slower you play them, the worse they become.
IDK ive tried playing like that it never goes well sure maybe you get a kill but holding W is just waiting to die. People at 10.0+ are usually not complete garbage and will take out your breach or barrel first shot and then its game over if you aren’t in a defensive spot where you can immediately crawl back into cover.
Playing defensively with 5 degrees gun depression, worse vertical targeting than ww2 hand cranked tanks, and abysmal reverse is basically just hoping the other team is bad.
10.3 russian teams have been awful the past few days, half of my matches is the other team running full court press into our spawn within 2-3 minutes and I try not to play around my team or complain about it but Its hard to do anything 1v3 etc every time, you get your gun taken out and you’ll just get ran down like a dog because there is no one keeping them in check. I think in 20 matches tonight I had about a 30% WR maybe.
I still cant grasp how to play these, and every single match there is an instance were 9/10 degrees of gun depression would have netted me a kill, or saved me. Or not having shit reverse. Or a giant pintel mount gun on top of every tank that nets anyone with enough of a brain to load heat and shoot it for a kill while im behind cover that I can’t hide that.
I catch myself taking bad shots, being too aggressive for no reason and dying, thats fine. But I just have these matches were i feel completely helpless do anything against tanks with depression and I have no idea what to do. Peaking them is suicide, trying to flank around when they have sightlines on everything, and my team is eating it so I’m stuck on my side of the map just feels bad.
An example is here on fulda, there was 4 swedish/german tanks on that 4 mark just farming my team, entire middle of the map is on complete lockdown and none of us can challenge them because of their depression here, C was hopeless because we had no prescence there an im not solo spawning there to fight 1vX, all I can do is push A on the side of the map but its a giant open space on the way to the cap with no cover while their team sits on cap waiting for us to come. I can either sit and hold an angle on A and wait for potentially minutes for them to get bored and leave cover, or hold W and hope the best. Honestly half my matches are like this. If I was in a leo 2 at least I could try to contest them at mid, absolutely pointless in a t72/80.
BVM is probably the best tank to do this with as it’s pretty fast while having competitive gun handling and okay reload speed.
T-80U is just BVM but worse in every regard, it even has K5 on UFP so in some cases your UFP will get penetrated, thus you can’t rely on your armor as much.
72B3 is yet another K5 tank with even worse reverse speed, reload and mobility in general.
That’s bound to happen in BRs with heavy premium presence like 10.3, which will obviously attract new players.
I’m not a big fan of them because of that as well. Try to find spots that work with your depression and reverse. Obviously you’ll be limited to way less spots, but you can do decent for sure.
This is one of the reasons why I think tanks like that aren’t really new player friendly.
What’s worse, they don’t have flat roofs so most of the times you can shoot at them and kill a crew member + breech, while their barrel still isn’t out of cover, making them even worse at hull down sniping.
Rural hilly maps are a bane of those tanks. Everyone just hides behind a defilade, scan the area in 3rd person, find a target, quickly pop out, shoot and go back to cover.
Tanks with bad gun depression and reverse speed is exactly what you don’t need in that situation.
At least you can be aggressive in urban mazes where there’s enough cover nearby to hide behind even without using the reverse speed. At least in some cases.
Ya this seems like the meta spots on every map that has these types of terrain tends to be spots like these.
Honestly I started playing Russia because I bought into the whole Russian bias thing being a German main. When I died all I saw was a tank, that on the face of it has superior armor, usually a superior round and all I could think was “Ya this shit is OP”.
You have to play these things to see what the drawbacks are, you can read 5 degrees depression, 4-11km reverse, turret rotation, vertical guidance and whatnot in the stat cards, but until you actually have to play it, it doesn’t really sink in what all these in combination mean.
My aim and game knowledge was also dogwater when I was playing germany only, and bad aim, and not knowing were to aim in different situations also played into the whole russian armor/tanks OP idea. At this point I’d trade all the armor in the world besides on the turret face for more depression and mobility/gun handling.
Good old bias.
That’s probably the easiest scapegoat to use for skill issues. What’s worse, I think I never saw someone performing that much better in USSR tanks to justify the claims.
It’s easy to focus only on the pros of vehicles that killed you, making your judgement clouded as a result.
So would I.
This is why I think uparmored leopards are the best in the game, as they have little to no crippling flaws and are great at pretty much most things.
Here’s another situation I get into a lot. Im sitting here, see the guy come around and stop at the X mark. I assume he heard me and knows where I am, because hes just sitting there staring in my general direction. Any move I make (Green arrows) results in him getting the first shot every time and IDK what to do besides sit there in a staring contest until a team mate kills him, or I get a shot on someone else. If I was in my leo I could just peak over the middle green arrow and take a shot, worst case scenario he takes out my breach and I use my mobility to get out of town.
Lucky for me he was blaring music and just gave me a free kill after he moves down the road later on. But I run into people where that isn’t the case, and they just push me, take out my breach at a angle I can’t return fire and its over and I have no clue what to do but pop smoke and run as fast as I can to get out of the situation before that happens, which takes forever in these tanks because of the awful reverse forcing me to do a 180 at a snails pace then running.
I’ve stared at this image for a while and just can not think of a single place to hold where I get first shot on someone pushing me, or at least similar shot oppurtunity, its always in their favor if they know what they doing. Maybe im wrong, I’d like to know what to do if anyone has any input (besides running away).
Trying to brawl more now as well, poor turret traverse, and especially vertical targeting is getting me killed all the time when I’d easily get first shot in otherwise.
Heres a funny video of vertical targeting getting me killed, rewatching this I probably should have heard him and looked there a second or 2 sooner but still if I didn’t have ww2 hand cracked vertical targeting speed I would have had first shot there easily and wouldn’t have to panic shoot like that.
Gamers I found a way to get more depression, it only works if you have good commander sights because it pushes dirt in front of the gun sight, but it works nicely. Always thought dozers were a meme, guess not for russian tanks. Not sure why I haven’t seen this mentioned before.
Also found out you can tap reverse at the last second if you need just a tiny bit more gun depression.
Was able to finally pull it off here, maybe hard to see but that goofy movement at the end and the gun depressing like +1-2 degrees was me hitting the S key, if i didnt do that I wasn’t going to get a shot as he went down the hill and I was dead meat since he would have reloaded and I have russian reverse gears at the top of the hill.
This is also a situation I get into a lot in Russian tanks and pretty much always lose unless they job (sitting below someone like this), do I have to sit in commander sight here to get a shot I’m not even sure if i would be able to get a shot in here if I was, and I have a hard time knowing if the barrel isn’t in the dirt sometimes, and again I’m not even sure I get a shot on here when he above me like that before he does.
