5.0 destroyers such as HMS Diamond have been unplayable since the BR uptiering from 4.7 to 5.0.
Almost every single map is a 12km spawn hellhole like New Zealand Cape. Low velocity destroyer guns just have no chance, both in accuracy and penetrating potential.
I spawn in and it’s cruisers everywhere, seems like the matchmaking is even worse since the BR changes.

yeah that was an awful change

The 6.0 breaking point is equally unbearable. You have light cruisers (some of them without AP) facing off against battleships. Naval is still hilariously compressed, not helped by the fact that you cant target cargo vessels

What is the problem?
at 4.7 they were already facing a raft of cruisers up to 5.7 - so that hasn’t changed.
Moffets and the Soviet 5.3’s are still 1 step up from the, so that hasn’t changed…
The NZ Cape map spawn points haven’t changed much - if at all then it isn’t really noticeable…
But not so many of them as the 5.7’s used to - they used to face everything up to 6.7so saw ewverythign except the very top BR of 7.0 - the 7.0’s are all not 7.3-7.7 so 6.0 doesn’t see them any more.
And of course the “old” 6.0 cruisers saw all the BB’s - again they now see fewer than they used to even from 6.3.
Try harder - they have low visibility so aren’t always as easy to lock as warships, but it can certainly be done.
I find the decompression quite nice. Stock grinding USS Gearing has been pleasant.
I think a few maps where you’ve got more than 12 km between heavy fleet spawn points and no light fleet spawns, now that the heavy fleets have been pushed farther apart, have become pretty rough for destroyers. Franz Josef Land is probably the worst example. Destroyers can’t effectively engage past 10 km with gunnery, they just get chewed up by the cruisers on those maps now. Some light fleet spawn points closer in might be needed on a couple of the maps where heavy fleet distances have been stretched out.
Yeah that is true - and of course the open water maps - although I’m not sure if DD’s get those.
But of course DD’s engaging with higher BR CL’s and CA’s with gunfire was never a good idea anyway!!
Makes it even more important to have a range of vessels in your lineup so you can pick a better one for hte game - ie fast boats of some type.
