Hello.

With the introduction of Tropical Coast in the Nuclear Escalation event, I believe the map could be a strong candidate for adaptation into an Enduring Confrontation map for Air Simulator Battles.

Air Simulator Battles has received relatively few new maps in recent years, with Rocky Canyon being the most recent addition if I recall correctly, and Tropical Coast already possesses several characteristics that make it suitable for EC:

  • Large playable area with varied terrain.
  • Extensive ocean and coastline for navigation but also naval objectives.

The map would not need to be identical to the current Nuclear Escalation mode. Instead, it could be modified into a traditional EC layout. If it is simpler, using existing convoy routes but swapping out the vehicles in said convoys could also work.

As the map is huge, I would suggest keeping long range + medium-range SAM/SPAA at the airfields, but limit when they engage targets. Given the size of the map, long-range airfield defences could remain present while engaging aircraft only within a defined radius of the airfield.

I believe adapting an existing map would be a practical way to increase map variety for ASB while requiring significantly fewer resources than creating an entirely new environment from scratch.

Additionally, the scale of the map would provide greater room for future mechanics, weapons and aircraft than many existing EC environments.

What are your thoughts?

I personally think that the map isn’t very suitable for air simulator battles given the airfield spawns; compared to others like Denmark whereas the airfields aren’t pointed directly at the general direction of the other—it’s a good map but would need a bit more of adjustment for air simulator battles.

fuck a map and fix the gamemode

Gaijin could always reposition airfields on the map for an EC layout. There is so much unused space near the borders of the map on both sides that I think they could squeeze in an extra airfield (so 4 total?) though I worry about the combined SAM/SPAA coverage (~30 km bubble at most for long range SAM? I think should be okay) if they put bases nearby said airfields.

That. Where infrastructure and assest are placed and where ground battles etc. spawn can be easily optimized for Sim.

Btw, where IRL is this maps supposed to be?

It’s fictional, just like Rocky Canyon (if I recall correctly)

I don’t get it why they create those artificial maps, or better, why they don’t label them after their real world inspirations… They have the whole World to chose from…

Well, the maps usually (except those fully artificial landscapes in Arcade…) are real world locations, but not officially named after those places. Snow Valley for example is

Maybe they’re already working on some of them in one form or another.

That said, if the infantry maps are anything to go by, I suspect Gaijin will continue creating fictional maps inspired by real-world locations rather than directly recreating them. For infantry gameplay that’s probably fine for the most part, but for air and ground battles I’d much rather see actual locations from historical conflicts.

Obviously there are some current-day conflicts that are off the table, but there is still a huge number of historical battlefields and regions they could draw from.

One thing I’d particularly like to see is maps being represented in different time periods (I think they already do this? But I’d have to check again). The same location set in different years could have noticeably different infrastructure, urban development and battlefield damage, reflecting both the effects of war and the subsequent rebuilding of the area. It would add a lot to the immersion and make returning to the same location feel less repetitive.

(Again, IMO)

Cuba or somewhere in the Caribbean region. Given the geography of the map I’d say Santiago de Cuba, Guajaca Uno or Trinidad were the places used as references to this map but I’m not sure but also I don’t think it’s the right answer since none of the names match.

Definitely neither lol. Cuba doesn’t have ice-capped mountains and the only other places closest to the Caribbean that does is in South America (Argentina, Chile, etc.) or in the northern US/Canada

So it is. Then the most realistic place that could’ve been used as reference I can think of is Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia, there’s ice-capped mountains near the coast to open sea, there are hispanic names around and it’s near to the Caribbean region as used in the Nuclear Thunder event based of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Argentina and Chile is too far south to have Jungles except in the far north borders. All of Chile’s northern regions are all deserts and the rainforests that Chile does have are Temperate rainforest not tropical jungles. The US and Canada has the same problem. The only part of South America where that descriptor fits is the northern coasts of Colombia and Venezuela. Though some portions of both countries coastlines are deserts.

Tbf most of the naval maps are also fictious as well, just capturing vibes of irl regions mainly due to gameplay considerations.

Then again it is A: extremely rare to see this outside of Naval and/or Arcade and B: In Naval, these maps should be treated by a case by case basis. Case in point, the Fictious New Zealand Coast map could be replaced with the actually existing Marlborough Coastline/Cook Strait.
