Its AA capability is lower than that of Lvkv 9040C.
Search radar is the most important thing for SPAA.
Without it you’re reliant on thermals or worse.
It’s why LAV-AD is 10.0 instead of 10.3 or higher. No search radar.
2S38 is only superior than Strf 9040C by penetration, which you agreed on.

You’re kidding, right? 1st gen thermals versus 3rd gen on 2S38 & (iirc) 2nd gen on CV9040s. Only Begleit has comparable optics to the HSTV-L.
What exact stats are you referring to here? all of the stats regarding AA capabilities i have looked at so far are better on the 2S38. (save for search radar)
higher tiers yes. at BR 10 or lower, no.
At that BR and lower almost all Heli’s and jets has to come close enough for you to visually see them before they can do anything to you anyway.
the M247 has a search-radar. but its 9.0.
i would argue its because of range (and other things). LAV-AD has a effective range of 5-6Km tops. any AA above that has way longer ranges.

An overperforming vehicle can only carry so much weight. Rest is up to the player.
There are people that struggle seeing and hearing enemy tanks 5 meters infront of them out in the open

Its not very good very low survivability. Very low damage on main gun. Its a needle gun.
It is slower than a 2a4.
The SPAA aspect was good during first week of 2s38 release then it got its range nerfed. Its not a homing missile so in the end effective range is only 1,5 km on air players

the gun is outstanding the dmg is great and if you know what you do you can carry a mix of 35%aphe 35%apfsds and 30% he-vt

Funny enough, most of the issues with the 2S38 its for the most part, player problems. The only real disadvantage is that it has a low-ready ammo pool and is a light tank, but that is rather redundant. The penetration its good fire rate its good too, and it has a pretty decent damage. Mobility-wise its just average but fast enough to rush on points normally mbt’s wouldn’t reach that fast, and it has pretty good survivability accompanied by the use of IRST and HE-VT, which makes it really good. What makes players struggle a lot with it is the fact that they want to treat it like an MBT with an autocannon when it’s a light tank. AKA zoom levels since War Thunder doesn’t use picture-in-picture for optics currently.
Thermal generation can make optics closer together, especially for longer range maps, but it doesn’t make an 8x optic as good as a 2x - 10x optic.

Ayit, AJ37, Super Etendard, AMX, Q-5L, Jag GR1A, Buccaneer S2B, Hunter F58, A-6E TRAM… all capable of 5+km engagements.
HSTVL is 11.3, not 11.7, and 2S38’s correct BR is 10.3, so it’s a 1.0 difference not 1.7.

I keep telling people that 2S38 and Strf 9040C are good vehicles, just not anywhere as powerful as MBTs of the same BR.

I did, hence why I support 2S38 for 10.3.
It’s not an HSTVL by far.
It’s close to its biggest kin the Strf 9040C.
If Begleit had APFSDS I’d say that’s a better 2S38 due to the TOW missiles despite it only being gen 1 thermals.
