This is outright laughable.
The 2S38 is capable of frontally annihilating almost any MBT. To begin with, this is a vehicle that arguably should not even be in the game, as it was only ever a prototype. Despite that, in War Thunder it has become a constant issue for anyone who encounters it.
The 2S38 is based on the BMP-3 chassis, featuring very light aluminum armor and an unmanned turret. On paper, it is a fragile vehicle, primarily designed as an air-defense platform, not as a main battle tank killer. In practice, however, its lack of armor is completely offset by its disproportionate firepower.
Its 57 mm autocannon, combined with a high rate of fire and APFSDS ammunition, allows it to reliably penetrate critical weak spots on modern MBTs. The combination of penetration, firing speed, and excellent fire control systems enables the 2S38 to destroy internal modules, turret rings, and crew members within seconds, even from frontal aspects.
It remains severely overperforming at its current BR, and moving it to 10.7 would not make it a bad vehicle. The real issue is encountering the 2S38 at 9.3, which is simply absurd. Despite its lack of armor, it is a textbook glass cannon, with offensive capabilities that do not match its battle rating.
I regularly play 12.7 ground battles, and the 2S38 is fully capable of frontally destroying a Leopard, a Chieftain, an M1A2 Abrams, and virtually any top-tier MBT. From a technical and realism standpoint, a vehicle of this type being able to engage modern MBTs head-on with such consistency has no justification whatsoever and seriously undermines the game’s balance.
