Is the frontal wedge part of the 2a4m suppose to be just 10mm steel?
Info on the actual turret specs are hard to find, that’s certain, but this is nowhere near close to realistic… I’ve seen suggests that the appliqué armor should be close to the leopard 2A7+ variants, just modified to fit the 2A4 turret config. I certainly don’t think it’s performance should be this poor under any circumstances. The only sources that can really be provided are articles which use Canadian army personnel as staff, but obviously no declassified documents can reasonably be found.
this article, for example: The Canadian Leopard 2 Tanks - TankNutDave.com
“In addition, only small areas of slat armour were added, in contrast with the fully caged 2A6M CANs. The protection of the Leopard 2A4M CAN has been further augmented with the addition of appliqué armour resembling that found on the most recent Leopard 2A7+ variant, but modified to fit the turret configuration of the 2A4.”
It sites that a retired sergeant provided the details, but they can’t just freely give out real documentation.
What do yall think about this, gaijin just probably neglect another tank?
Click X-ray view mode and make sure the show armor box is ticked
Should be some composite armor in the wedges
so it has been fix?
neat(i havent check)
I think it’s always been like that, surely the Leo wedges always had the composite armor in them.
The standard armor view doesn’t work very well for modern tanks as most of the armor is internal which is why you have to switch to x-ray mode to actually see it
Looks like I was wrong.
After checking, it seems that the turret wedges are largely hollow with metal structures in them to stop HEAT and degrade APFSDS, like ERA sort of but doesn’t explode.
I always just assumed they were packed with composite armor lol
There are no composite inside the model

u can clearly see the outline of just the 10mm wedge
for the other leos its a single block
protection analysis also show that it get penned by m829a2 for example but the applique armor from multiple canadian sources tell that it has almost equivalent protection as much as 2a7v
so bruh moment
Yep.
The Canadian sources could be referring to chemical protection, which would make more sense imo
I believe even with the wedges on the other Leopard 2s, they aren’t packed with composite either. It’s mostly air on the inside.

They do pack in composite
only in combat condition
mostly store equipment in training/idle
As far as I know, it’s a 80 millimeter composite screen then spaced armor until the turret composite armor array.
its quite the same as normal leopard wedge just fitted version for the 2a4m
So it might be made of different materials than in game, but it still wouldn’t be solid composite armor.
its like outer 10mm steel and inner composite add on
material is classified but its probably just composite
theres a steel skin over the composite armour
it isnt like that irl it was shown and discussed in some other thread. hollow.
its just steel skin only tho
no composite inside
it is but in combat they were install in
so youre saying for some reason in peace time the armor isnt there and then before combat its installed and that is why there is no proof?
