Leopard 2RI - The Big Cat from Indonesia

Hi and welcome to my 104th suggestion, which is about the Leopard 2RI, hope you like it.

Basic Background

On 7 May 2013, the German government under Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the Federal Security Council had approved the delivery of heavy military equipment to Indonesia. Specifically, this involved 104 used Leopard 2, four recovery, three bridge-laying, three engineer tanks and 50 older Marder 1A3 IFVs. The decision followed a meeting between Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono and Merkel in the summer of 2012.
The final delivery agreement was concluded with Rheinmetall in December 2012 and had a total volume of 216 million Euros. It included 103 refurbished Leopard 2A4, 43 overhauled Marder 1A3 and eleven recovery and engineer vehicles. The package also included technical documentation, training equipment, logistical support and an initial supply of training and combat ammunition.
Later in addition, over 60 Leopard 2s were modernised with Rheinmetall’s ‘Revolution’ package. This included improvements to the turret drive, enhanced ballistic protection, the installation of an auxiliary power unit and air conditioning, as well as modern assistance systems such as night vision and reversing aids. The weapon system was also adapted to enable it to use DM11 high-explosive (HE) ammunition.

The Leopard 2RI Overall

The core of the Leopard 2RI is a standard Leopard 2A4 but upgraded to the Leopard “Evolution”-Standards, with additional AMAP armor on the turret, front and side hull - I don’t currently know whether AMAP-L (Spall Liner) was also installed, but it is a standard part of the Leopard 2 Evolution package. The turret armor is identical to that of the Leopard 2PL already in the game.
According to sources, the sideskirts should have a protection of at least 600-700mm at a steering angle of 60° (this can possibly result in ~300mm at 90° / flat angle) against Chemical rounds. In tests, the AMAP sideskirts were able to withstand a tandem missile with up to 750mm pen at an angle of 90° (flat).

The Leopard 2RI is equipped with an MTU MB-837 Ka501 diesel engine that delivers 1500 hp - and reaches an official maximum road speed of 68 / -31 km/h and weighs 58.7 tons.
The firepower of the Leopard 2RI is identical to that of the others; 120mm L/44 which fires with DM53, DM11, as well as DM78, DM88 and DM98 for training - Spall Liners subject for more research.

Thanks for your time, hope you liked it :salute:

well then german ground tree can get both. win win! other indonesian stuff can go to the indon subtree in japan

Why should it go there when Germany’s rank 7 already has 3 different premium Leopards (2 of which basically performs the same as this) 🤔

oh i never said it “SHOULD”
nothing about it is a “should” thing

you also should know better that gaijin doesnt operate in a “should be” mode.

M8, its just Frain trolling us 😂

its just some people have certain “opinions” about things. Some of the takes I’ve seen in the forums are a bit “questionable” to say the least
