1v1 Air Duel Tournament Game Mode

With much ado about new Air game modes lately, I’ve been sitting on an idea for a while.

For me, I’m not the best shot in the world but where I do seem to have a real knack is in the manoeuvring element of dogfighting. Currently this element of dogfighting is almost punished just by the clusterfook nature of air battles. what do I mean? …Third Party-ing!

The amount of times I’ve gotten someone on my 6, I pull up, we’re now in a rolling scissors, I get them out in front, we’re now in a turn fight with me on his 6, I just need a little more lead to get the gun on them, I’m bout to get it when a teammate out of nowhere claps them. This, imo, is the most infuriating thing in all of War Thunder and it happens all the time.

It’s one thing to point out problems and another to come up with solutions and a I think I have an Idea. 1v1 Duals.

I don’t imagine you could do actual 1v1 lobbies so instead do Air RB or even Bullet Hell size lobbies and make each match a tournament.

Here’s how it would work. You spawn in a head on, straight into the merge but spawn protected until you pass one another, once you’ve passed one another, have at it!

As far as I’m aware, IRL pilots get 3 minutes when training dogfights so maybe make each bracket 3 minutes to get a kill. Get a kill early and you get to spectate the duel, the winner of which, you’ll face next.

If everyone’s duelling in the same match, how do you manage that? Simple. Just don’t render them. Everyone else is there in the same match, just you can’t see, hear or interact with them. From you’re POV, it’s just you and your opponent.

You could do is random spawn points. Seen as Air maps are huge, you and your opponent could spawn in a head on anywhere on the map. You could spawn to 40k feet, you could spawn at down in a valley, you could spawn out over the sea. As long as you don’t spawn in a head on with mountain.

You could do so many variations of this, full load out, guns only, 1v1s, 2v2s etc.

A decent idea for a gamemode and pairs map design that’s already in game with a familiar play style to those used to 1v1 Thunder league tournaments, but actually for the live SL/RP rewards instead of just the custom game ones with a GE or similar price we already have.

Theyre pretty fun. Has a few people who show up and give up without even trying tho.

Imagine if more people signed up wed get more than 2 tournaments per week.

Also there exists a discord called “Warthunder duelling community” that offers the same (sb lfg is a biiiit hard. Rb lfg seems quite lively)

I made this post way back in November and it only got approved and made public now lol, hence the Bullet Hell references. I love Growling Sidewinder’s DCS duels on YouTube and I’d love to see more of that in WT as an integral part of the game.

At the time I made the OP there was a lot of excitement about the then new Bullet Hell and it seemed like there was a real drive from Gaijin to spice up air gameplay with the introduction of SEAD and Bullet Hell as potential future game modes, the sentiment being that Air RB was a bit stale. I think if anything is stale about Air RB it’s the team death match nature of the game which Bullet hell and SEAD don’t get away from. My idea is a complete break away from team death match while maintaining lobby sizes.

All the infrastructure is already there to make it happen. Very happy to see there’s interest in the idea, thanks all for the votes.
