WTF is up with the post pen on HEAT? Specifically the M60A2 and XM803, the massive 152mm heat shell they have with 3.72 kgs of TNT equivalent, they barely do anything to mediums, or even lights. I shot a Turm III in the hull earlier (facing dead straight with turret facing me) and I only killed the driver with one of those shells to the middle of the hull. I cannot count the amount of times that shell has penned perfectly and done nothing. Also shot a TAM earlier in mid-to-back hull from the side and all that is damaged is the engine (not as relevant there). I’m aiming for places that apfsds or even apds can do way more damage. Is the problem that the game only models spalling which HEAT doesn’t have a ton of because its main source of internal damage is THE MOLTEN HOT METAL bouncing around the inside of the tank??? The low velocity on those rounds are already damn enough to make them annoying to play going around the same speed as a short barrel howitzer HE round (XM803’s is a little faster than M60A2).
You dont frontal shot with that heat
Go for place that u can overpressure
Yes u heard it right, overpressure them
Shoot cupola, turret cheeks(as close to the top hull plate as possible), ammo rack(usually 1
shot ofc)
and if ur frustrated just go play arcade until u have the apfsds
HEAT has been bugged since it got introduced. Its probably never going to change…
The best thing you can do, is what @MrBombastic8 said; and thats trying to overpressure them by shooting capola, ammo, etc…
Honestly I prefer using HEAT over APFSDS because they get the job done faster. Also they don’t cost any sl which is a bonus.
i usually bring 26-28 round which is usually 18-21 apfsds and the rest is heat or atgm
depend on the map some i use full atgm
honestly the xm mbt and kpz apfsds got nerf so hard now i cant even do anything at like long range
Well the Jet is neither molten nor does it bounce. It’s so fast that it will simply cut into any material until it gets slowed down.
It’s in the nature of HEAT to have very low post-pen damage, since the energy is focused into a very small point.
Of course the damage of APFSDS doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
It can go through 10mm of armor and create massive spall in a 45° cone.
That would make sense if they also had 100% chance of ammo/fuel detonation which they dont.
That’s a general problem with War Thunder.
A lot doesn’t make sense but the gameplay is based on the maps we have to play on.
WT is in the end just an arcade game trying to pretend it’s more than that.
