Is there any difference between the BR-281S and BR-281U ammo types?
Or is spending SLs on the BR-281U mod a waste?
The WIKI text suggests the 281U is comprised of 50% AP and 50% HE. But that just sounds like the default which is also 50/50.
Anyone have firm grasp on the differences?
Yeah. One is a solid shell (S), but the other has an HE filler (U).
Heavily recommend the one with HE filler

And is the filler on each APBC shell? (as opposed to the default which alternates between APBC and HE rounds…)
Yes. It is the same as the BR-281P but with explosive filler
