Is anyone else as annoyed as me that you can hear incoming missiles that are travelling way beyond the speed of sound?
If something’s travelling beyond the speed of sound, you wouldn’t be able to hear it unless it passed you by and even then it takes a fraction of a second before you can hear anything.
I basically only play Simulator Battles and the amount of Fox-2s I’ve wasted even though I’ve had my radar off and approached a target in a manner that I was not detected, only for them to flare at the last second and thereby defeat the missile, is annoying to say the least.
It’s similar to a supersonic aircraft: the plane flies faster than sound, so by the time you hear it, it’s already passed by.
But theoretically, it is possible to hear the moment the missile is launched because it takes a few seconds for the missile to accelerate to its maximum speed.
I have in mind situations where the enemy hears your missile just a second after you launch it.
I can hear the missile with closed cockpit too, but then it’s to late to flare/chaff. With open cockpit I can hear it earlier and have some time for reaction.
As long as you have the sound of your own engine set to the minimum, you can hear incoming missiles quite clearly and in time to be able to flare them off with a closed canopy. Which is what I am criticizing. This should not be possible. With an open canopy or not.
