Why were both the XM8 and CCVL event vehicles? Having one as an event vehicle is fine, I guess, but the two of them? That’s just messed up. I don’t understand why they did that, and was hoping someone could give me some answers (if there even is one). I really like the look of both of them, but I can’t even get them as I’m on Xbox. I can’t earn enough SL to keep buying infantry crates to try to get one either, so I’m just out of luck. But the British got the VFM5 in the TT, which as far as I’m aware, is just a CCVL without thermals, and auto loader (but has a higher penning round at .7 lower). I mean, what are actually the chances of them adding the M8 thunderbolt, 120 AGS, or BAE MPF XM1302 to the TT (or them even coming to the game at all)? Also the US has a lack of large caliber light tanks in the higher BR’s, and both the XM8 and CCVL would have been great additions and filled some gaps.
The good idea fairy at Gaijin thought it would be a good idea.
Unfortunately it’s hard to say which US prototype light vehicles Gaijin will add, and if they’ll be tech tree or not. The only tank I can confidently say will come eventually to the main tech tree is the M10 Booker since it’s in service. The Stingray may also come since Thai ground is certain to receive it.
Tanks like the LAV105, M8 Thunderbolt, ARES LAV, and XM1302 all seem tentative, and with Gaijin placing ground forces on the back burner for the last year and a half it might be awhile before we see these tanks come to game.
Oh boy, don’t even get me started on that.
As for the Stingray, I thought Japan was getting Thailand as a sub tree? I don’t think they would give the US the stingray as well if that’s the case.
Also the M10 definitely will come at some point, it’s been passed for consideration (which I guess doesn’t mean a whole lot but it’s better than just being a suggestion) but it doesn’t have that nice look of the (X)M8. The good idea fairy of Gaijin has robbed us way too many times of vehicles that should have been in the tech tree.
It is and the Thai sub tree should certainly have it first. But I have a feeling they might give it to the US tree too at some point considering it would fit the theme of AGS competition vehicles being events.
Unfortunately I think it will continue to be like this. M8 should’ve been tech tree and have actual upgrades over the CCVL. It’s crazy that the CCVL is a prototype of the XM8 and has a better round.
The XM8 has been largely forgotten by gaijin and the community, the AGS gets all the attention and M8 threads don’t typically get very popular. Hopefully they’ll add another form of the M8 to the tech tree because it is such a cool vehicle but only time will tell.
I don’t know, the M10 Booker seems like a propaganda promoved by tank enthusiasts as a light Abrams of some sort. But surely would be a nice addition as end-of-the-line light tank.
Based on what I have read, it’s not supposed to be a light tank but more of a bunker buster/infantry support vehicle. I wouldn’t say propaganda is the right word, more like misunderstood and over hyped. I think the problem with the Booker is it is still very new, so some specifications aren’t entirely known (like armor effectiveness, at least I haven’t been able to find any numbers).
it is really annoying that so many vehicles are unobtainable because they were events and not premium or TT
I haven’t really seen too much overhype about it. If anything it was just exciting for the US to finally have a true replacement for the M551 Sheridan decades after it left service. It’ll be a good back up vehicle and in my opinion pretty analogous to the VT-5/ZTQ-15.
They saw how well the first one sold and they decided they needed the sequel to also be an event. But like many sequels it didn’t live up to the original.
Welp no more M10 Booker RIP
I think the reason why it was seen as a light tank is because a lot of the systems were the same to make training familiar to tankers.
It was however heavily emphasized to commanders to not employ them as tanks.
Crazy how soon after we talked about it, this happened.
Three days ago or even more back then medias started to report the failure of the M10 Booker.
I might the emphasising too much but it might be the failure of the US Army in two decades. Certainly in War Thunder would likely fit a role of tank destroyer dressed as a light tank just like the 2S25/2S25M.
Considering the retirement of the M551 Sheridan is a good option but not exactly the best, just like the US Army and former USSR used to do push decades old vehicle with multiple modernization programs, the M551 Sheridan shouldn’t be left behind.
Talking specifically and in a more superficial way, the M551 Sheridan and the M10 Booker have the same roles as armored tracked support vehicles, both have a good weapon for supporting infantry yet lacking armor.
I never understood why they didn’t try to do more with the Sheridan. The 152 always seemed to give them so many problems, I’m not sure why they wouldn’t try another gun, like a 105 or even a 120. The Sprut uses a 125 and weighs about 3 tons more than the Sheridan. I have seen the Sheridans with the M68, and the one with the Stingray turret, but I’m not sure why they didn’t work out. If anyone has some knowledge on that, I would greatly appreciate it.
I always figured the weight would be an issue but really didn’t expect it to be axed after receiving an official designation and LRIP with some already being delivered.
I think these never took off due to the M8 winning the AGS competition as it was going to fill the role of airborne capable scout tank/fire support. Then after the cancellation of the M8 the funding wasn’t really there for any kind of replacement until the advent of the Stryker Brigade. Which was probably easier for the Army to justify considering the Stryker MGS shared the same platform as their new AFV.
