slightly less range

interesting, just breaks my heart even more that we still won’t be getting anything that carries early falcons for a long while most likely

the only thing that they will probably add that carries it will be the f-102

I do know 102 is most likely, and might not be too far off, but the wait feels so long already

As you stated in the previous suggestion before becomiong part of the game, the addition of secondary weapons like conventional bombs, should be a thing coming to it. Just a reminder of what you found and provided the info needed for this a year ago.

The issue is that the first source is the encyclopedia, which is already automatically rejected by technical moderators because it is a very unreliable secondary source in most cases. Primary sources I have with me do not support the claim of wing pylons for two 2,000 lb bombs and four 680 lb mines.

We tried to argue for the centerline AERO 7A rack on the basis of technical compatibility in a bug report, but it was rejected because we have no photographs or reliable documents to demonstrate that configuration. Our claim is nothing but a hypothesis.

Understood, so then what type of pylons are used for the external fuel tanks ? (Image 1)

Also, i was looking up for the pylons themselves and found this. For sure you have more advance knowledge of what could possibly be: rockets, any other crazy thing of the 60s… in the Image 2 and this link:

Since the variation of the A model to the C model was mostly strengthening the structure for pulling more Gs, could be an equivalent.

F-101 doesn’t need pylons to attach the external fuel tanks. As I understand it, the belly of the fuselage already has connection holes, or whatever you call them, so the drop tanks can be attached directly to the fuselage. The flight manual even mentioned a jettison button for the drop tanks. Please excuse the poor quality of the scanned book pictures.

Regarding image 2, the centerline was holding the fuel tank for testing purposes. It does not appear to be an operational standard for mission operations, as the flight manual does not mention the third drop tank on the centerline. Apparently, it’s unique to the F-101A airframe.

Actually, I am not sure about that.

It’s not a drop tank, but a (non-droppable?) fuselage auxiliary fuel tank can be attached at the centerline, per the F-101A & C SAC. It’s very uncommon to see that configuration IRL for the operational use, I believe.

Got it, at the same time a documentary about the “tactical Voodoos” ( TACTICAL VOODOO: The Forgotten Nuclear Fighter Bomber Was A Lethal Low Level Weapons System ) makes reference to when they were deployed in Bentwaters in '63 they carried out conventional bomb practice. All the reference he uses are in his description.

Is from the book cited below.

Also mentioned a book written by a Voodoo pilot ( Voodoo warriors : the story of the Voodoo McDonnell fast-jets : Walpole, Nigel : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive ) that could contain some info of every nature.

i don’t know if this had already been shared here. f-101 of unknown variant was tested with an hmd (early version of the on the f-106 in game)

also could we add the f-101b to this discussion?

this was tested on the F-101B, the 101A and 101C had left their fighter role service for recon conversion by this point.

I would be okay with converting this into a general F-101 thread but the 101B has been denied from even being planned at the moment

I am thinking I, or someone else, should create a separate thread for F-101B & F-101F since the scope is very different.

It is not even flatly denied. It’s just that it’s denied for this update.

I’m the one who asked smin, he said it is not currently planned and that it is “not entirely ruled out”

that sure sounds like a denial of it being planned at all
