WW1 to Interwar 1939 Gamemode

DEV add simply a ww1\interwar event in simulator! top event ever

Another option to implementation is rank 0 as show this picture (as several people have already suggested here):

Practically the possibility to do research from rank 1 to rank 0, whoever wants to (reverse research - from more modern to less modern). Rank 1 remains the starting tier, so research will not be extended for those who go for more modern machines. The advantages over what is proposed in this thread are that all vehicles remain in their own folders and no additional folders are needed that can be used for other types of machines such as submarines.

This is a much better implementation. Had exactly this in mind when I was playing. Rank 0 alone, though, would probably need new maps. Most of the ones we have in rotation currently are terrible. Not only in aesthetics, but also gameplay wise with the ww1 vehicles. Already hate when this happens in-game, you’re in early 2000 with a pz3 and it just kills any sort of interesting immersion.

I’d like to suggest the possibility of adding an official, permanently available campaign mode for Ground Forces, focused on historical battles. Below are key reasons supporting this idea:

  1. Appeal to Military Enthusiasts: War Thunder’s high realism attracts players deeply interested in military history, many of whom study WWII tactics. Simulating famous battles from both World Wars would significantly engage this audience and draw in similar players.
  2. Technically Feasible: Many tanks in-game saw actual combat in WWII, with fully developed models already implemented. Numerous maps also have real-world prototypes—some even modeled after genuine battlefields. This means a campaign mode could be created with minimal additional development resources.
  3. Proven Success: The 2024 April Fools’ event recreating the Battle of the Somme was exceptionally well-received by players. Making such content permanent—and expanding it with iconic battles like the Battle of Villers-Bocage or Battle of Malinovo—would generate further positive feedback and enrich the game’s long-term value.

Thank you for considering this proposal. We appreciate your time and dedication to War Thunder!

+1 I wanna see more atrociously bad doohickeys to goof off in when playing custom battles

Took a while but I finished some possible TT’s for American and German WW1 Air TT’s.

German

US

WW1 US

Going to be doing one for France soon (hopefully if I have the time).

Oh no compression for WW1 also ))

Decided to make these two into official suggestions.

Finally got the first one approved.

More or less for me I would like to see more maps in the designated era because that would provide the excuse to add the old tanks. The WW1 tanks don’t play that poorly they got the bio robot armour and they got a strategic gameplay eco system

With the addition of Infantry mode, a WW1 mode doesnt seem that far off.

Absolutely! This would be amazing, +1.000, i’m 100% in favor of the addition of world war 1 and interwar tanks to the game, it’s a period that’s full of very interesting and very cool looking tanks, Like the British-American project the Mark VIII heavy tank.

Although i do like the challenge of using ww1 tanks against ww2 tanks, i like the challenge, and i would like to be abble to use them in a normal lineup as well, like kinda how you can bring the Mark V with A13’s and the Tetrarch the independent and others.

Man! I can’t wait for more world war 1 and interwar tanks! I really hope that gaijin gives this area more attention because it’s so much cooler than the repetitive modern tanks…

I haven’t seen this news before! Dude this is amazing news!

Exactly. Seeing interwar/early ww2 tanks fight on cargo port/modern holland is just gaudy.

Agreed, one of the reasons i paid like full price in games like bf1 was purely because of the ww1 vehicles, i just love how they look! And i know they’re absolutely not accurate at all in bf1.

I just love the tanks, the armored cars, the planes, airships, everything! Everything in the ww1 era is so unique, it’s a waste not to have it all in war thunder.

I would love to see gaijin seriously expand more into the world war 1 - interwar period, and not sporadically add 1 occasional ww1/interwar vehicle here and there, like… do a serious expansion into it! Do a full update even!

True. Im fine though with cold war tank in a ww1 map if it fits them I am not a purist but I like the gritty action filled maps. I understand that in maneuver warfare you get engagements where basically everyone dropped everything and ran so the map is clean but there is character in that WW1 map that I liked. Wish they added it to the map roster for low tier Gaijin put work into it sad they lost it.

Overall though the WW1 tanks do hold them selves very well against low tier tanks so a rank 0 or reserve tier is not that bad. Would teach new players on how to build a line up which is needed.

Yes that’s true, although not all nations participated in world war 1 using vehicles, a lot of nations did acquire ww1 vehicles after the war, and a lot of nations developed their own vehicles in between 1918 and 1929, i known those are more interwar tanks, but most of them would perfectly fit in a world war 1 game mode without being too strong or “overpowered”.

The B1 from 1935 is a Char B1, it has 40mm of armor all around, exept for the hull hoof, turret hoof and hull floor, the turret has 56mm of armor in the front and 45mm on all other sides, the armament consists of 2 guns, the turret gun and the hull gun that has very limited traverse angles.

The gun on the turret is a french 47mm, the same gun as the AMC.34 YR, this gun can go through a max of 27mm of armor, the gun on the hull is a 75mm gun and it can penetrate up to 58mm of armor, but it has very limited traverse angles.

A lot of tanks from 1935 can deal with the armor of the Char B1, and their armor could withstand a hit from the 47mm gun, meaning the Char B1 would need its 75mm gun to effectively deal with the target.

You’re saying it wouldn’t be fair for other nations like the british but i have to disagree. Let’s see, the Char B1 is from 1935 let’s see what tanks Britain had at that time and before that time.

A1E1 Independent

In 1925 the British had the Independent, 28mm of armor, armed with a 47mm QF 3 pounder gun, enough armor to stop the turret gun, and the 3 pounder can penetrate up to 49mm of armor so (In War Thunder format) the Independent would be capable of dealing with the Char B1.

Vickers Medium Mark I and II

In the 1920’s the british also had the Vickers Medium tanks Mark I and II these tanks are also armed with the same 47mm 3 pounder gun, armor was 8.25mm although some parts might be thicker due to overlaps, so also capable to damage the Char B1, and smaller than the Independent, so it’s easier to ambush enemies.

Medium Mark III A6E2

In 1930 the British also had the A6E2 Medium tank Mark III, the A6E2 is also smaller than the Independent, has up to 14mm of armor, it’s also armed with the 3 pounder (47mm gun), and has very good mobility, so it would also be able to deal with the Char B1.

These are just some examples of British tanks from 1935 and backwards that would be able to deal with the Char B1 either by having armor that would force the B1 to use the 75mm gun or by having a gun capable of defeating the armor of the B1, even if it’s done by flanking or hitting it from the sides. And the British also had other tanks with better armor and other guns that i haven’t mentioned here, just do some research and you’ll see that a lot of tanks from the time if introduced to war thunder would be abble to defeat the armor of the Char B1.

Hey i think the M1921 and M1922 medium tanks could be added to the British tree as well since they were a cooperation between the British and the Americans, just like the International (Mark 8) heavy tank, the M1921 and M1922 were both based on the British:

Vickers Medium Mark D

They would be a very welcome addition to the game, i love these tanks. (Sorry for replying so much i just really like this topic, and i have a ton of books on World War 1 and forgotten tanks)

You also got stuff like the Gun carrier Mk.1. which though slow could function in game at 1.0 - 2.0 maybe even a bit higher because of over pressure plus the issue of the many light and open top vehicles.

There are also many Renault FT Self-Propelled Guns

I am interested mainly in France for the WW1 and interwar tanks for there SPGs stuff like the Canon de 194 GPF. The Canon de 194 GPF can also be given to Italy and Germany as they did use them in WW2 after taking them out of storage after France fell. It can fire from 0° but I bet Gaijin could argue a -1%. France also had some 1 offs built by heavy industrial firms that wanted to sell improved versions to the army but they failed thoughout the 1920s (will find them)
