Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

uh yeah because you immediately get sent to first by losing all of your speed

please use your critical thinking

if you need further clarification: tight turns=lower speed, lower speed=tight turns, turn+clutch brake steering=lose speed, turn+regen steering=keep speed
and most importantly
regen steering+brake before turn=TIGHT TURNS

Thats a good point, @Джахед hey, make a video how you do a tight turn at full speed and then you do not loose that speed due to braking of one track. You demanded so many videos from us on russian forum, time to record your own, Джахед.

Just do a full speed tight turn while maintaining all the speed, without the slow down afterwards.

Literally:

Clutch steering:

  • Loose speed after a tight turn
  • Loose speed after a slight turn

Regenerative steering:

  • Loose speed before a tight turn
  • Maintain speed after a slight turn

In any case regenerative steering is either the same or better.

In War Thunder, high maneuverability is far more important than maintaining speed through turns. Driving from the spawn to a key position is mostly just moving in a straight line with minimal steering adjustments. You are literally proposing to give up high maneuverability—a key element of the gameplay—just to reach a position 0.5 seconds faster. That’s ridiculous

if thats the case, why are wheels automatically +0.3 br over tracks?
literally trading manuverability for speed.

anyway ill take not losing speed in turns over slightly better turning circle anyday,
yes i tested all the vehicles, on the dev. only strv 122s were undrivable in cities.

bro what?

The BR’s didnt change since the reload-nerf to CT-CV 105HP, even when CT-CV still had the 5s reload, it was a lower BR, despite having the same levels of optronics, firepower, even better gun-handling and comparably non-existent armour. (take 10.3 Boxer MGS as example if you wanna cope about “muh turret-ring”)

Wheeled vehicles are objectively worse on the vast majority of maps due to their often high levels of movement-inertia; sluggish-turning, lack of neutral-steering and, depending on the specific vehicle in question (cough, type 16) soapbox-alike inability to stop quickly.

the reason probably why ct-cv didnt go up is because the reload nerf had been in consideration for some time already.
i also wondered why didnt go up, but now it makes sense.
also gaijin doesnt know how to balance event vehicles.
also literally the sole exception to the rule.

what about radcampwagon, or centauro, or type 16? all have comparable tracked counterparts at a lower br.

Wheeled vehicles? I thought any light vehicle gets +0.3 BR

Because of this

could explain most, but what about radcampwagon compared to tam ip?
rad .7 higher while both light tanks, the same firepower, similar survivability and tam winning in gunhandling.
and it isnt like tam is slow either.

also tam 2c is only .3 higher while having +.7 worth from gen 3 vs no thermals and +.3 from dm63 vs dm33(gaijin logic, not mine).

another example is: cv 90 tml vs amx 10rc. one has higher hp/t, fires faster, is more manuverable, both light and are at the same br, but the other one has wheels.

my argument is that speed is just that important. and gaijin logic is wheel = fast, even if it actually isnt.

It matters when you’re comparing 16 hp/t on one hand to 25 hp/t on the other. Then, yeah, speed actually matters. But that’s not the case here.

go try ariete mbt on a medium/big city map with and without regen steering.
easily over 5 seconds faster to get to a site. also saving .5s in every turn is huge.

Officially, this mechanic was tested only on the Leopard 2 and Type 90/10 tanks.

As I mentioned earlier, driving from the spawn to a key position is mostly just moving in a straight line with minimal steering adjustments. This means that if the new steering mechanic has any advantage over the old one, it will be minimal.

On top of that, you should wait until the developers fix the bug that speeds up vehicles by 7 times when maneuvering😑

I sincerily hope they add this, clutch braking in anything other than an abrams is just so painful, espeically the CR2s dude, go from 40kmh to 15 by doing a 30 degree turn.

I don’t know if anyone else is still playing around with regenerative steering in user missions or the devs even look at the comments here but I found something that could also help with the handling.

Basically the brakes on some tanks are simply way too strong. This is especially noticeable with regen steering on some tanks, when you slow down before a corner if you reach a low enough speed your tracks lock up instantly, the tank stops and goes into neutral gear.

Not every tank had this problem but the Leo 2A7V did (poor Leos having every problem imaginable lol). So I simply changed the maxBrakeForce from 300000 to 245000 and the difference is like night and day!

The 2A7V is now extremely smooth on the brakes, you can brake very precisely and never lock up the wheels/tracks. You can easily slow down from 61 km/h to 1 km/h without the tank stopping completely. The same brake force value seems to be working pretty well for every Leo 2.

The 2A7V even with the reduced brake force can fully stop from 61 km/h in 2.5 seconds which is still a little bit better than the IRL values but I think that’s not a big problem.

Wait, this is still in files and you can actually use it on live server’s user missions?

Yes, everything is the same as it was on the dev server!

try turning down the moment of inertia as well

With the neutralGearRatio set to 9 instead of 12 and the brake force adjustment the Leo 2s feel amazing now, except the steering/throttle bug of course. So I don’t think adjusting inertia is necessary but I have no idea what inertia values even mean so I’ll leave that to someone who does haha

As per gaijin, regenerative steering will be returning on an upcoming dev server for furthur testing, with improvements being made since the initial test.

I get it’s realistic but gameplay wise i feel like it will not do anything really
