Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

I didn’t even notice it when I watched first but it’s insane that the first half of the video is CC Max! And it still does well! So if you also brake a bit here and there or just let go of the throttle for a split second it’s basically perfect

ODL or don’t join any non CQC map = only CQC maps exist I guess…

I think I was even generous with that 9 because I counted Middle East and Abandoned Factory as fully city maps but they don’t really have that many tight spaces

Soviet/Russian tanks have a similar system, whether Gaijin will model that is a different question but I’d guess so

There are only 8 pure city maps

Out of all fully city maps 0 have Poland/Iberia/Maginot like tight spaces

Give me the stirring

It’s not like most the urban maps don’t have open plains either. You can just not go cqc on most of those

This video is still hilarious, the current handling feels like something is seriously broken on the tank

Will be a slightly different comparison than what you asked, same engine yes but because of tweaks made to neutral gear ratio (and first gear to match the same value of the neutral gear to improve turning performance as per discussed with @Fireball_2020), you will also notice the CR2 accelerating quite a bit better.

The difference is not even comparable, not even in the same ballpark.

The acceleration/torque bug becomes quite obvious here especially when steering while accelerating up hills. Tight corners also become significantly harder to navigate.

These are unmodified right? So the original neutralGearRatio?

And yeah that bug is really annoying on WW2 tanks, it constantly pushes them forward in a turn

Yeah unmodified.

A potential buff for the Challenger 2?
Not going to be implemented then. British tax means we have to deal with our poorly implemented vehicles.

We NEED regenerative steering, across the board! All these comments about “WT isnt about realism” or “this is a nerf” either don’t understand the mechanic or are afraid their meta tanks will get benched. This look great and can be perfect with tweaking!

Btw W+A/D being Regenerative Steering and simply holding A/D being the old steering would be a very stupid idea.

Even if we ignore the fact that it’s super unrealistic it would be horrible for gameplay as well. Sometimes you just want to turn while the tank is simply rolling without throttle. That would be impossible with those controls. Like this would be the absolutely worst implementation.

The tanks functioned as they did for so many years, now they wanna introduce a new system that some people might not like. Instead of replacing the old one, keep the old one and add the new one so people can play however they prefer. If it was OK for the vehicles to function as they did for the previous years, it should be still be fine for the following.

Would be fun to see how it works on the Maus, it’s not regenerative in the mechanical sense as it lacked a gearbox and mechanical steering gears, but the Driver was capable of controlling how the power was distributed to both the tracks independently, so it should be capable of what is functionally regenerative steering.

This would be a good Start for the Maus, but really electric drive tanks need a massive overhaul in how they drive in general, the Maus should NOT have 8 mechanical gears like it does in game, its acceleration and turning should be smooth and seamless and not have any of the clunkiness of gear shifting.

Ooh. Don’t show me a scimitar with actual mobility.

The 7.7 one will be as fast as fox with regen. It’s gonna be so peak

It wasn’t xD

That’s why thousands have been begging for Regenerative Steering since 2017.
