Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

A comparison of maneuvering with/without Regenerative Steering: in both Type 10 and Leopard 2’s cases, the driver arrives at their destination MUCH quicker WITH regenerative steering.

This is why we have been sabre rattling for it’s addition for years.

It’s far worse in much chunkier vehicles like a challenger, heavily kitted out older MBT or even light tank with slightly too much braking force and jelly soft suspension.

Back when the FV107 was added it physically couldn’t keep any speed after a turn, it’s much better now but bloody hopeless at retaining speed, even though it’s the fastest production tank ever made, double diff steer will at least it almost have that rightful crown from the overperforming XM800T as it will keep speed after a turn

THESE VIDEOS right here are ALL anyone on this planet should be able to see to FULLY support the implementation of Regenerative Steering.

No because time to location isnt the only thing that matters in game

I noticed there are two threads now for some reason so I’m going to copy-paste my post here too if it’s not a problem

I also think that the problem at the moment is how the automatic transmission works and not the Regenerative Steering itself. These videos were made with Manual transmission

Once Gaijin adjusts the auto transmission logic, the gear ratios or even the turning radius for each gear it should work properly without having to use manual.

I have to say though that regenerative steering feels a lot smoother than the previous handling model even in it’s current state

I agree with this setup, we could add a key binding so players can use it more flexibly.

@Stona_WT sorry for pinging you again, but observe, THIS post right here, contains the largest consensus and solution to the still potential issues related to the mechanic!

With this polished, it will all be PERFECT.

Yes, the issue in the first video has annoyed me for years, sometimes (all the time?) tanks just bog down completely because of this brake assisted turn system or whatever it is lol

if only a bug reporting website existed, would be cool if they made one

the broken clock strikes right.

We need the ability to kick up and down gears while in auto again

doesnt even need to be a keybind, could just be selected like your aircraft control mode

Will admit, its a different driving style.

Tanks dont turn like its mariokart anymore, you need to use brakes and throttle control.

I prefer it significantly and look forward to seeing it expand to more vehicles, I have figures for a couple vehicles to help gaijin tune it in once bug reports are allowed to go ahead too.

For planes there is bind to switch between controle modes:

And as with planes, the bind is not to use it once and forget, current steering system and new proposed ones each has strengths and “advanced” players would love to switch between both “on the fly”.
I myself use that switch in the planes sometimes to get more AoA for example.

its currently physicaly impossible to even do as little as this movement in WT, thats how primiative the system currently is. regen steering will be a renaissance for a lot of vehicles

that would be quite annoying overtime especially if regen is default for people who wanna keep current system

I would like to switch to reversible transmission on T-90M and not have a -4km/h, but I expect its not how it works :P

Some modern tanks are just incapable of using “brake track” steering, iirc.

Gaijin shoud just fix their automatic transmission mode.

Idk why people look at it differently than at other parameters such as gear ratios and count, horsepower, pneumatic suspension, etc…

As with “Full controls” I assume Regenerative steering will be an “advanced” option and thus not a default one

tell me which planes in game can switch their flight control logic mid flight irl, and im not talking about something like an AOA paddle

planes ingame can’t switch their flight models. A plane in arcade will be able to turn better even if you are using sim rudder or something.

Its not an option of “controls”, its literally how transmission works. Gaijin wrote a sheet of gear to radius parameters.

Its like saying that reverse is a controls parameter and T-90M should be able to switch to -60km/h reverse, lol

Nobody is saying that, a tank with regen steering irl can still use the brakes while doing a turn, while a t90m cant magically spawn gears.

Also, using full real controls in ARB will change your fm as you will now be able to pull more aoa than players in mouse aim
