Work-In-Progress: Regenerative Steering — Should We Add It? Try It & Leave Your Feedback!

It is cool, but doesnt fit my playstile. Should br toggleble

Yes it should be added as a perm option since it is realistic if i am not mistaken, though it should be added to other tanks as well if they do have it IRL

@Stona_WT Can the Video be changed to one that actually showcases regenerative steering’s benefits?, Pivot steering isnt what it’s made for, its for mobility on the move

also, Neutral steering as nothing to do with Regenerative steering

The video alludes to Regenerative steering being plain worse, when this is not the case

It should remain in the game.

As it is quite limiting for CQB maps, it should be implemented as a toggleable option though. Either as a slider in the settings tab or something more dynamic as in W+A/D → reg steering and S+A/D → hand brake steering

In my opinion:

1- It should be polished a bit further (detailed feedback has been provided regarding the issues).

2- It should be made toggleable as to satisfy everyone’s needs.

But please, do NOT cancel it if there’s opposition or lack of understanding towards the mechanic.

Regenerative Steering is highly beneficial in every single circumstance that isn’t city street driving, and it is an absolute blessing to those of us who wanted more realistic Main Battle Tank controls.

A fair compromise would be this:

However, if a mixed/toggleable system isn’t possible, then I FULLY support the implementation, even if it takes driving more carefully on cities.

EDIT: Here’s a 13 minute compilation of me driving across the streets of Tunisia, Poland and Rhine with Regenerative-Steered Type 10 and EVEN Leopard 2, which everyone has acknowledged to have a currently flawed iteration of the mechanic that would turn much better at lower speeds when polished.

Since so many are convinced that “it will be impossible to drive across streets with Regenerative Steering”.

Also, it’s extremely compressed because the Forum has a file limit size of 60 MB, so had to assassinate the videos to be able to upload them there, hahah.

EDIT: I forgot to add another video I had recorded with Type 10. Then it would have been 15 minutes of footage. Dang!

EDIT: a post I fully subscribe:

Out of a 6 minute long video that I made driving across Poland, you HAD to cut it off to nitpick 1 minute worth of specific moments?

And, of course, you refused to even reply to my video showcasing Type 10’s regenerative steering, which has ZERO issues driving across streets: after which I DID point out that Leopard 2’s current iteration was suboptimal but Type 10’s configuration was much better for cities.

Make it toggleable or do not add it at all. I understand regenerative steering is beneficial when maneuvering on large flat areas but it is too much of a burden in CQB maps or tight spaces.

From what ive seen, yeah for adding it. But as I understand it, driver can still apply brakes to one track only, effectively what we have now. So best option would be as others pointed out, to have it engage under specific condition only, such as when holding W+A/D together, whereas only pressing A/D would give us “current” turning.

That single minute shows the issues you ran into just during a test drive (with no teammates or enemies around). I can only imagine how bad it’ll be in actual matches.

What do you mean I didn’t reply? I literally told you that I don’t want to sacrifice the maneuverability of 99% of MBTs in the game for the sake of a couple of Type 10s. Though overall, I wouldn’t mind if they added this mechanic exclusively for the Type 10s

Article explain this.
The video shows different scenarios, to show that some things will not change when regenerative steering is switched on.

This.

And it should also be added to all vehicles that had it, for example Tiger II and Panthers

Is it planned to come to other tanks once it comes to live server?

My whole point was that regenerative steering, ACROSS THE BOARD, could be adjusted so it felt closer to Type 10’s iteration across all MBTs.

Which would be realistic, as there’s videos of Leopard 2s zigzagging cones with great agility BUT without losing speed either.

You never replied to that, as you didn’t now. Instead, you keep talking about how “it must be ditched because else it’s a nerf except for Type 10”.

I like the feature, but maybe add a toggle so that the people who want it can have it, and the people who don’t can keep it as is.

That way both sides win.

This is still an arcade game at its core. Yes it integrates some realism elements but that doesnt change this.

Consider that a large portion of the playerbase wouldnt prefer this new steering system gameplay-wise (as it beats almost a decade of muscle memory), a combination of both old and new system (with the latter receiving further improvements/fixes) would be ideal from a gameplay perspective.

This is a change to the very core of ground gameplay and as such should be a sole improvement. Not a “improves x but y becomes much worse in return”.

The Type 10s regen steering looks amazing, hopefully they can change the Leopard’s so its a bit more responsive, like that

AFAIK all that was/are using it IRL.
We are working to add some additional info to the text.

Hi Stona,

Do you know if other tanks are planned to have this tested on the dev server? Or will this remain with the current selection we have.

e.g. Challenger 2, and the Abrams

Thanks

Is there plans to increase the number of vehicles using it on the dev server for testing?
