Before the update i was sure the weakness was not that large, and maybe it’s because the trunnion replaced the armour? But it does not make any sense, even worse than the basket. Damage to the trunnion seems not to affect any function, but it truly reduce the thickness of armour.

They effectively told us “hey don’t worry it’s just meant for visuals” and then proceeded to just have a pure cylinder for the actual damage model ingame
I would love to say some spalls hit the floor part and disable the transverse, since it is really hard to obtain convincing evidence to claim a damage model. But still, this may be the worst nerf so far
I feel like a tiny fragment of a spalling APFSDS round shouldn’t be able to fully disabe the drive though. However, theres definitely some hitting the top and bottom parts.
There’s some round that has barely any spall that can work, try an APCR or early APDS round to the side
Can confirm,this thing ironically happened to me on my first battle after the update,on the first enemy shot.
3BM60 thru the driver side,created a ton of spalling despite passing through a fuel tank and an armored plate,the turret basket was destroyed not by the shell but by a single shrapnel generated by it,thus setting me on fire of course (since the turret drive now shares the DM of the Hydraulic pump,meaning you’ll be on fire). Oh and another single fragment destroyed my FCS,also.
This implementation is the worst i have ever seen, instead of punishing bad aim it almost encourages it
-The Turret drive DM (no matter if its the ring or the basket) can only be destroyed by a full round going thru it (so shrapnel can do a max damage to the DM and then any further damage from them is brought up to 0)
AND
-The turret ring and the turret basket no longer catches fire when hit. I’m “okay” for the hydraulic pump to cause a fire if directly hit,not any other elements
And keep in mind,i want this thing to be added for ALL tanks, regardless of the nation. It’s unbelievable that a single shrapnel can knock out the turret ring of a tank
Now the only solution to enjoy this game is to play in Russia. They have the best fighter, the best ground support, the best helicopter, the best anti-aircraft, and two of the best tanks in the game, which are the T-90MS and the T-80BVM. In a match, the T-90MS tank was hit by three shots in the ammunition in the middle. The turret did not fail or the ammunition explode, and by hitting the driver, he killed everything.
At this point what is really anoying is rusia players that bring 12 kh38´s, 10 matches today against russia, only 2 wins, 4 matches with su30-34 players with more than 8 kills only with planes. In one match I shoot down a su34 and a su30 got killed by another su30 3 seconds after, and those players who I´ve shoot down just spawned in another kh38 slinger.
At this point, considering the recent addition of the trunnion to the Leos yeah,it seems like it.
Even that addition is completely pointless: everyone knows that a Leo 2A5/6/7 weakspot from the front turret is that bit around the gun,and if you shoot it right you already disable the cannon and potentially kill a crew member. Why rewarding a good shot further and punish a weakspot further???
I think that the addition of complete modules inside this game is not done for the sake of reality,but to address the fact that the engine can’t handle a proper damage simulation leading to inefficient post-pen damage,and instead of fixing this code they prefer to artificially fill every tank with tiny modules that magically creates a ton of spall and all have a fragile life
su-30 yah its good so good in cas and in air to air r-77-1 same as aim120B and it can out maneuver the EFT i do it with my bro account and r-73 can kill any in close ring and 6 kh-39 so yahhhh it gooood
Let’s be honest,the Kh-38MT are the best CAS weapon in this game,and the fact that Russia also has the best SPAA option in the game as of right now,it means that the only way to deal with a 38 spammer is to get into a plane and do CAP, hoping that:
A) there’s no Pantsirs on the ground
B) the enemy CAS is clueless
C) there are no enemy CAP planes in sight
But that’s not the point of this conversation,the point is that the recent addition to the Abrams and the Leos is only a test that Gaijin is doing,and trust me no matter the results they’ll add similat things to any top tier tank in the game in this year.
I think everyone agrees here that Top Tier should not be a literal “wins who’s the fastest to click” because you have 1000 tiny modules that creates frag bomb levels of shrapnel inside your tank
