As far as I know, aim120D is literally a copy/paste aim12-c5, and as you may know, aim120c5 sucks because it has weaker motor than aim120A/B variants, pull less G-load than A/B variant, and is very easy to notch. Aim120D still uses the same motor, same seeker, same everything as the C5 and the “upgrade” it has over the C5 is a better guidance system… that’s it…
I can see this as Gaijin’s attempt to help F18E & F15C GE be more competitive at top tier but is this the best they can do? A copy/paste C5? Which is still worse than their earlier A/B variant? The “new” F16 at 14.3 with 6 missile hard points are also another issue, way too high of a BR for a pea shooter of a jet.
So, in short conclusion, No I don’t think aim120D would make a difference at all, just another expensive modification you have to research. But if I am wrong then please correct me because I have not got on the dev server yet and I do not plan to
No. It won’t. If they would’ve given us an F-15EX with 14 of them, maybe.
But it has no HOBS. They’re not giving it any smokeless motor. Or taking into consideration giving it a stronger seeker.
What is the point of adding it if its going to be marginally better than the Aim-120A? I was hopeful it would actually be a buff, but I guess it doesn’t really do much.
Atleast make the C-5s an actual upgrade instead of adding a copy/paste of a later (and even better) model.
As it stands, neither the C-5 nor the D added any useful capability to any platform carrying the AIM-120, and in most circumstances, they are actively worse.
Currently on the dev the D is the worst AMRAAM in the game. It doesn’t even have any capability to relock a target with datalink to the launching aircraft’s radar… still only needs to get notched for a quarter of a second for it to make a 90 degree turn to the nearest piece of chaff within a 500 mile radius, then totally ignores datalink information sent to it about the position of the aircraft it is supposed to be tracking.
This bias against NATO vehicles is getting extremely out of control… I’m still waiting for my accepted Abrams turret ring report to be implemented into the game; it won’t be, they have no interest in fixing it because Russian IFVs would no longer be able to penetrate it.
The worst gimbals (±60)
About the same scan speed as everyone else (that’s how GJ models aesa)
Range in some hundreds of kilometres (like everyone else’s)
No fancy modes like LPI or even ECM (unless everyone else also gets them)
