The C2 Ariete should be delivered in its final form starting from 2025 (2-3 tanks if I recall correctly).
In the meantime Gaijin added the Leo 2A7HU to “patch” the Italian top tier situation.
Once the C2 is released I’m sure it will also be added to the game. Top tier heavily relies on MBTs to be competitive, so more MBTs additions are welcome. They can also work on the armour of Ariete and their BR placement to make things better.
Hopefully it gets some updates over AMV prototypes, maybe improved “WAR” armor kit covering not only turret cheeks, but also UFP and reveal damn protection figures, so devs can fix the armor XD
Or APS at least…
That’t surprised me they don’t give any of prototypes 120/45 with autoloader such as on Centauro 2. On the other hand autoloader is going to be kinda disadvantage in WT soon.
The C2 Ariete update can be summed up with these changes:
The base vehicle is the same (no changes in structure) but several things have been changed and/or upgraded
-Upgraded engine to 1500HP
-Upgraded transmission and gearbox
-New brake system
-New/upgraded tracks (can’t remember)
-New electrically driven turret drive (used to be hydraulic)
-New radio/communication system
-New FCS with GEN 3 thermals for commander and gunner
-Addition of .50 cal to the turret roof
-Gun breech upgraded to fire NATO programmable amminition
-Installation of the PSO kit (the side armour you see here) for all tanks to increase CE protection
-Additional modifications that allow the WAR kit (add-on armour for KE protection) to be installed together with the PSO kit (the base Ariete can carry only one of the two at the same time)
These changes are not a total revolution of the tank, rather an attempt to keep the Ariete relevant in the future years until a new, state of the art MBT will be given to the Italian army.
Honestly I don’t understand why they can’t spent those billions of money to further upgrade Arietes instead of purchasing foreing stuff. Leopard 2 isn’t that much ahead of Ariete, it can be upgraded just fine imo.
It would be best to first study the situation in more detail before jumping to such conclusions.
This was actually the most cost effective choice to keep Ariete around without scrapping more than 100 tanks still able to work and fight. As mentioned in my previous comment, this program’s goal is to keep the Ariete relevant enough until the next gen MBT is available, and that is going to take a long time.
If you are referring go the Leo 2A7s rumored to be bought in the next few years I agree, it is a decision that goes against the choice of upgrading Ariete.
My guess is that they want both options on the table instead of fully commiting to one path. And also politcs, but that part is beyond me.
