You don’t say, but traveling through 50mm of bulletproof glass, engine blocks, and then 20-25mm of steel plating, also just shredding wings off isn’t.
- 50mm bulletproof glass isnt equivalent to 50mm steel
- .50 can punch through some engine blocks no?
- .50 cal can also go through 20-25mm steel
and shredding wing off on first hit unless you hit some super critical spot shouldnt happen, but im sure that against a wing already hit by other rounds, a .50 cal could rip it off
Using standard ammo can I assume?
A decent amount of guys I knew would use 40mm cans to hold more 50 ammo.
At point blank with its currently dubious penetration stats, sure. But after a couple hundred meters fired at a receding aircraft? Never happening.
maybe with SLAP rounds but yeah it shouldnt be doing that with regular APIT or AP
i heard .50 cal can go way more than 200 rnd without overheat though
Yeah, no, I’ve had personal experiences of this exact thing happening.
Although it’s just an M8 Greyhound.
Those are not US troops.
Is it my misunderstanding, or are we actually not talking about the M2 Browning? What does this have to do with whether it’s the U.S. military or not?
You are mistaken. The gun is clearly mounted as general’s personal weapon. :)
The barrel also looks unnusual as if it was a solid piece without cooling holes.
I don’t know, but I will try to collect information about why the M8 Greyhound was modified this way.
Well yes, however the person you replied to sayed it wasnt used on vehicles (as it wasnt), this photo you show is a parade vehicle and it doesnt look like US uniforms and tanker helmets.
