Why substantially buffing the Merkavas mk.4 would benefit everyone

I hope no one’s shooting angled UFP.

You can’t really expect Merkava to have enough armor in the hull to stop DM53 L/55.

People do on the LIC. But issue is it doesn’t do much at a certain angle other than damage the engine unless you get real crazy with the pixel hunt. The upper side armor eats APFSDS for whatever reason where the M, and B don’t. But the lower side armor is ez cheese. If they are experienced they’ll shoot there.

I’ve for the longest time said I don’t expect that lol. Rather, I don’t expect it to survive 3bm60 or 3bm59 either. It’s environment is that of asymmetry from beginning to present. More than other nations MBTs created out of fear of being out classed completely. Typically at a number disadvantage with moderate parity.

I’m just saying what I’d think 80 tons + 18.75 HP/T with War Thunder Soap track physics is WORTH/isn’t WORTH for ME. Not what I think is physically accurate 550mm+ is insane. I need to see the math on that. But yeah no, I don’t think it’s worth it imo.

Brotha the merkavas whole thing is protecting the crew it should be THE most survive able tank in game

And yes i know im replying late

So I decided to play the Mk.4’s a bit, as I’ve yet to actually spade the LIC.

The new combination of Basket/Upper Horizontal Drive hitbox + Hydraulics on both sides of the turret rear has pretty much shot the tank in the back of the head, getting penetrated anywhere in the hull that isn’t in the rear where you can bait it, completely disables you with zero ability to fight back, or kills you.

Worst offense being the horizontal drive hitbox that now has 2 protrusions on the left/right side, a LOT of penetrating shots on the turret face have ended up disabling it, forcing a repair or using hull aiming.

It’s a better time now than ever before to atleast consider an armor buff, in tandem with weight increases.

This is a proposal made by my friend, but the gist is there.

  • UFP highly resistant to lower pen darts like 3BM42 (engine stops them) but still gets lolpenned by top tier darts
  • Turret pretty much immune to all KE and CE munitions from the front except for a few spots where the armour is physically just thin
  • Turret side highly resistant to lower pen darts like 3BM42 and all CE
  • Hull side composite stops lower pen darts like 3BM42 when angled slighlty and even top tier darts when angled a bit more
  • Sideskirts now stop autocannon APDS/APFSDS even dead-on
  • Turret top stops LMUR

Only sacrifice for this, Weight increase to 80-84 tons (being current weight is just comical and makes no sense logically)

I’d also say the lower portion of the basket should not completely disable traverse, and only reduce it to the handcrank values (which should apply to all tanks with basket) alongside Hydraulic unit being struck reduces traverse to handcrank values as backup

Just my thoughts with post-change Merkava, went from niche BMPT-resistant tank that wasn’t insanely strong for tank on tank to being still good against BMPT’s but made irrelevant in both roles by new Abrams variants and soon to come neck armor across all variants.
