I’m not very good at English, so I’m not sure I can explain this well, but…

I was thinking that an armor layer like ERA might function similarly to the “Relic” in the game, deflecting shells and creating a large cavity when the APFSDS warhead fragments.

I don’t think it would make much of a difference even if there were a massive aluminum structure there.

Well, I don’t really think it would actually stop anything either…

Though I’d be happy if it did.

Just give Mk4s enough armor to stop ~450-500mm KE and call it a day.

find a file inside ur link. Its the designer of Merkava Israel Tal in China during 2000s. They did mention merkava mk4 weight 65tons and mk3 weight 61tons. They also mention how they can upgrade their armour by just replacing armour module with a newer one. I guess thats how it went from 65tons to 80tons after 20yrs of armour development.

It was brought up that “hur der, more weight & size = more armor/most well protected” when that isn’t the case. Thats not how armor to weight ratio works. In fact being LARGER, and HEAVIER spread that armor thin. Being HEAVIER, and SMALLER is more of a marker of a higher armor index. But again without farther deep analysis you can’t go with either as if it’s pure fact.

That’s way too little, it already does. It’s not worth 18.75 HP/T. I’m saying this because I’m scared we are gonna end up getting Gaijined because of this discourse.

I’m talking about the hull.

The Mk4’s turret front seems to have very high KE resistance, likely due to the change in the number of bolts. The hull probably has around 480-550 KE resistance…

Like what if they increase the armour without changing the armour.

i mean they can increase the armour by swapping and upgrading the modular armour.(isnt what it suppose to do btw).

It’s probably not possible, but personally, I’m thinking there might be gaps inside the Merkava Mk4’s turret modular armor—so what if we stuffed some more SLERA in there?

Not in the triangular sections, but between the three large armor plates.

I remember 2021 ISR did propose their new type of slera that can reduce penetration power by 50%. U might want to look at that.

I read it from this extremely detailed bug report. (Credit to the one who made it.
Gaijin reason is there’s no prove IDF use this armour shield, but that still prove ISR armour technology is def capable at defeating KE projectile.

I hope that the “Armor Shield KE” mentioned in this report is actually being used on the Barak.

In any case, this is great news for Merkava enthusiasts.

If we can prove that it has been mounted at some point it could make for a nice buff, I can imagine that they would add it to a singular one as opposed to all of them though. A good first step would be modeling SLERA at all I think.

That armor on the hull + a more consistently thick turret (i hate to use MTC as a “”“source”“”) but replicating it’s Mk.4 turret armor, and then making the tank itself 70-75 tons is probably the best outcome we could hope for.

idk why people think Mk.4’s ufp is magically super thick when the plates themselves are relatively thin compared to other MBT’s.

Probably because of look at it’s weight bruv and it’s Merkava, the most armored tank.
Not to mention how probably all of that KE protection just comes from ridiculous amount of effort to increase CE one.

That might help with angling but only against the BVM, 90M (if 3bm59 doesn’t come), ZTZ, Leclerc (if they never get a new round), and Challenger tanks.

Leopard 2s, Challenger 3s, Abrams, Arietes, etc not so much.

It’s not so much that but the space taken up by the aluminum engine vs the composite (which is very much improvised design wise) doesn’t add up to the 700mm someone talked about a while ago on the thread. That doesn’t make sense mathematically. Even if it was straight RHA.
