Yeah, but even after spending hundreds of euros, you’re still stuck grinding in War Thunder. Meanwhile, most other games would provide you with a complete experience without requiring any more grind after that initial investment.
In theory you’d need 20 premium vehicles to finish air/ground trees of all nations at the fastest rate. This would cost you 600+ euros without counting all the time spent grinding.
This point about costs is essentially a false comparison. There will always be something more expensive, just like how racing is more costly than golf. If you ask a golfer about their expenses over the last 10 years, they’d likely spend a considerable amount on equipment, courses, and tournaments—but that doesn’t mean golf is unreasonable compared to other hobbies.
Similarly, just because other activities or games might be more expensive doesn’t justify the excessive grind in War Thunder. The real issue here isn’t the cost itself, but whether the time and money invested in War Thunder are actually providing a reasonable return in terms of enjoyment and progression. If a game demands hundreds of euros and thousands of hours, that’s a problem on its own, regardless of what other activities might cost.
But i dont need all trees, and since i got most of my stuff F2P id even say i didnt really need any premiums. Even more since the new top end is just copy paste so i can skip the brits for example.
But during my time i had my moments of fun, making that part of the money slightly less wasted than the rest. It isnt just grinding all day long but a lot of enjoyment in between. In other games the content just stops at some point and i never touch it again, and the hours of fun/spent € is similar if not better in wt (if i would have only spent the 400]
Not wanting to play all trees definitely cuts down on cost, but I guess many want to try everything there is.
yeah i often find myself looking at one shiny vehicle exclusive to a tree, before embarking on the grind again. But looking at the forums i get the impression that most players only play one nation lol
its kinda bad to let the toptier aircraft rot when you spaded 90% of it bc it is the only rp bank you get for getting more rp to grind for the new vehicle
In general playing toptier is only viable for playing your favourite jet(f-15, ef2000, rafale,su27, etc…). Toptier does not give you the most sl(8.0-10.0 has the highest modifiers), the rp you farm is in especially for smaller nations pointless(sweden, japan(thai tree is shit and has didnt add much for japan tree),germany) bc there is only 1 viable aircraft for air and ground. So the rp you farm is useless. I think there are 2 ways of implementing such system for more rp relevance.
1st remove the inefficient research after reaching the end of 1 line and implement the rp bank for this nation(certain amount)
2nd you can choose after buying the last jet in the line if you wanna search the old vehicles or use the rp bank…
Maybe some people keeps playing on completed trees because they enjoy it instead of gaining research?
Not everything has to be a grind
If you find it wasteful, you could also simply switch nations or switch vehicle type if you only want RP and nothing else
Its an interesting point. I get thousands of RP everytime I play. Most have no use. They just vanish, if the TT is completed. Would be nice if they could be stored. Or maybe get changed into SL or something.
The RP situation is appalling, they casually add millions upon millions of RP per update, primarily through copy paste garbage, refuse to folder things and trees get massive.
We also have 10 trees at this point, we’ve gotten naval trees, helicopter trees and all trees keep expanding.
But we still get RP as if the game has 1/10th of the content, if the RP had scaled with the rest we’d easily be getting 5 times the RP or more, yet we still get this pitiful amount.
And then we’re supposed to be happy with this dumb skill bonus as if that even makes a dent in the absurd RP requirements.
You could easily cut all the RP requirements for this game by 50% and the grind would still be stupid.
It’s quite an interesting idea I must say.

Thank you in advance.
Done. Pending approval.
Maybe try playing the game and the researched vehicles for fun sometime and not just the grind.
Imagine being born and then spending your entire life trying to rush to your death. Live a little.
Playing for fun and wanting meaningful progression are not mutually exclusive. War Thunder is designed around research and advancement—if progression didn’t matter, the game wouldn’t have a tech tree system to begin with. The RP Bank doesn’t take away from playing for fun; it simply ensures that the effort players put in continues to have value even after they’ve completed a tree.
Besides, Gaijin already recognizes this concept in Enlisted, another game they publish, where excess RP is stored for later use. If it’s good enough there, why not here?
Enjoying the game shouldn’t mean accepting wasted effort. The RP Bank just makes War Thunder more rewarding for long-term players without changing how anyone chooses to play.
I’m just wondering, do you not go back and play lower bracket planes?
By virtue of the research efficiency system, flying out my F4U is a massive waste of research and I should only ever fly my crusader instead.
I do play lower tier planes yes. I play in all kinds of battle ratings
They can come up with more premium features like different levels of VIP privilege, example: super VIP that can opt out CAS modes in ground battles, you bet you can turn some of those 80% freeloaders into spenders. And also do rent-a-vehicle that let players rent the marketplace items like IS-7/E-100 for $10 per day or something, you can even use this method to temporary make people pay for the tech tree vehicles they hadn’t researched. lol
The statistic he listed is 100% useless either way and doesnt paint a clear picture of the actual situation
