Why is this destroyer so terrible? It’s impossible to play because you have no armour, every time you get shot it’s an immediate ammo rack no matter how little ammo you bring, the cannons are terrible at 127mms, the SAP shells don’t do anything, the HE shells don’t pen anything. Waste of 875 GE on sale, don’t buy it unless you have 90% off which is never going to happen.
Alternatively, someone tell me how to play this but I know that nobody can because it’s so useless.
Unfortunately. I think this is due to the Boffet spam we had much of last year. Every single game, there would be a dozen Moffets all controlled by bots. Personally, I learnt exactly where to fire to near enough guarantee a first salvo one shot and it was not uncommon for me to walk away with a dozen easy kills every match in something like HMS Belfast.
Whilst the Boffets have died out, that target practice still remains and I still know exactly where to aim to gurantee a one shot most of the time. I would not be surprised if that is the same for most players.
Most US destroyers have the same major weakness, a very exposed aft ammo rack, if you can shield that by angling hard or peeking from behind cover, then it should be far harder to one shot, but having never actually played the Moffet, I shall leave a proper answer from someone who has experience actually playing it, and not murdering them
Angling hard doesn’t matter because your “heavy armour” is like 16 millimeters. I’m currently having a better time using the Clemson Class at 5.0 than the Porter Class at 5.0. I just wanted a good vessel to grind America with because I wanted to see what all the hype was about. I heard the Moffett was good so I got it… waste of GE. I might just go back to playing Britain at least they have good ships.

The forums freak out sometimes, I think it resets around this time, so if youve not played in a while it freaks out, even if you have played matches.
And yeah, its less about protection and more about hiding your giant weakspot.
My experience fighting US ships. Their destroyers seem a bit flimsy but their light Cruisers are insane, especially ships like USS Atlanta. So might be worth sticking it out just for that. But I think the greatest weakness of the US cruisers and advnatage of the British ships, is that US is at 5.0 but Britain has some pretty decent ships at 4.3.
British Destroyers spend most of their time fighting destroyers, US destroyers spend much of their time fighting cruisers.
This is interesting, but myself even used 4.3 British destroyers at 5.3 with friends and they could easily hold their own…
Yeah, British destroyers can be as much of a powder keg, but people are less inclined to know exactly where to aim. I think they are also a little more survivable because the weakspot is a little trickier to hit
