Why is the tam in war thunder a light tank?

Our ingame-configuration is the same as TAM.

Afaik that quote is from tank encyclopedia, isnt it?

They sadly flat out ignore that TH 301 was a desgnation Thyssen Henschel used for more than a decade, with the initial vehicles being virtually identical to the production-series of TAM.

This brochure e.g. shows one of the TAM prototypes that were sent to argentina.

This is also TH 301 but featuring the thermal-sleeve around the Rh 105-30.

This is also TH 301, now with the PERI RT (that TAM also used) instead of the TRP-2A

Also TH 301 (Here w/ PZB 200, CCD Camera and TVD)

And finally, TH 301/A4
(has new engine a.o.)

Yes.

If Germany actually produced the TH 301 and not the TAM, Gaijin should just be using that nomenclature in the German TT.

Why not have it correct?

The initial production-batch of TAM was produced in germany before the TAMSE plant was established in argentina.

30*0.5 = 15
Soviet medium tank is between 20 - 40t
Light tank is under that

Why would it be that high if it doesn’t even have DM23 or DM33?

yes it does

They eat DM33 equivalent darts and autocanon incredibly well for a lightly armoured budget MBT

are plenty mobile enough to be higher than 9.0 and 9.3

have the ammuntion you start seeing at 10.3-10.7 on other MBTs too

What?

First of all the TAM is not Soviet.
But I’ll play.

Name some POST WW2 Soviet/Russian tanks weighing between 20t-30t that could be considered a MBT.

T-10 > 30t
T54/55 > 30t
T-62 > 30t
T-72 > 30t
T-80 > 30t
Even the T-44 which straddles WW2/Cold War is > 30t and it has up to 120mm armor on the turret.

The TAM in WT has 32mm hull armor, 30mm turret armor and top speed of 75 km/h.
That’s the characteristics of a light tank.

TAM is not Soviet but Gaijin uses Soviet classifications

Big thing. Does it really matter if it’s classed as a light tank? Not like you lose anything bevause of it.

You only gain stuff like scouting and cheaper spawn costs.

Interesting how you ignored 90% of my post.

It would be awesome if you could name some vehicles 20t-30t that go 75 km/h with armor < 40mm that GAIJIN has classified as medium/MBT.

Are you refusing to understand my comments or what?
I am not talking about whatever Gaijin does, my first comment was a joke about its weight regarding its classification as based upon Soviet standards which Gaijin uses (30t×0.5 =15t, ussr light tank) then I explained the 2nd most possible logic behind it as to not parrot play style reasonings everyone already said

What are you even trying to say? Yeah I know by Gaijin standards it should be MT but it’s LT, that’s exactly why I made the 30*0,5 comment in the first place

You said by soviet standards MBTs can be tanks in the 20t-30t range, and followed that up with “Gaijin uses soviet standards”.

I say this is incorrect. By Gaijin’s standards the TAM is NOT a medium tank.
It’s armor AND weight AND speed all scream light tank.
The TAM in WT is classified correctly for the game.

What?

No

Why does this matter?

Because Gaijin uses Soviet tank classification, and because of the USSR, the concept of MBT doesn’t exist in War thunder and it’s all light, medium or heavy tank
Because of this, weight matters

The soviet union stopped using the “medium tank” classification since the introduction of the T-64, plus MBT is a classification in game that exists, it just uses the same icon as medium. I don’t know what you’re talking about as this relies on a false premise.

As for the actual function in game classifications, it mostly applies to how a vehicle plays in game (I know crazy right?) and doesn’t rely on real world classifications, for example Self-Propelled Howitzers are Tank Destroyers, any wheeled Recon or tank destroyers at high tier vehicles are ‘light tanks’.
