Why is the Stormer HVM so bad?

Should give you an idea of how performant it was… (not very)

This is the thing that bothers me. Everything I’ve seen points to Rapier being unable to hit stuff above 10,000ft. I don’t know why, but if that was implemented as a hard limit to firing that’d be hideous.

Crappy motor so it just burns all its energy by 3km up.

Ballache.

Jeez, Dad worked on these. Must’ve been so fun in the desert with rifles that fell apart and Missiles that relied entirely on your enemy going low.

I have no idea how anyone can look at the Stormer, then look at something like the Strela, and be like. “Yeah, this thing should be .3 above the Strela. Absolutely.” Like, seriously, it is, by far, the SINGLE, WORST
missile SPAA that has ever been added to the game, and that is an impressive feat considering stingers exist.

Ay the tracked rapier was passed to devs… neat

well, a thing before the stormer is coming

Rapier was a point defence weapon - depending on who you ask…it was either capable of smiting any winged miscreant from the sky within it’s small kill-zone.

Or it was a bit crap.

I suspect the truth is somewhere in the middle. It was only struck from the inventory fairly recently to be replaced by Sky Sabre.

Remember that it was said by the same guys who said that Blowpipe is a great missile

True… but Blowpipe was VERY rapidly ditched as soon as humanly possible. It was so diabolical they didn’t even attempt to fix/upgrade it. The issues were just so fundemental that you might as well start from scratch.

Compare that to the SA80 - initial run was truly dire - remedied by upgrades/refit into a rifle that is actually well regarded now.

Rapier - initial experiences not great - heavily upgraded through it’s life with better sensors, all-weather ability, etc.

We have form with comedy weapons systems. I mean some people to this day get PTSD when you mention the Avro Manchester - it was ‘fixed’ and turned into the iconic Lancaster.

I think Rapier comes under the same ‘starts off bad - gets better’ routine. They wouldn’t have kept it for so long otherwise, nor would they have bothered upgrading it to such an extent.

You never know - maybe Ajax might actually turn out to be not half bad in 10 years time when they get around to fixing it…

Well, you got the point, but i wonder what missiles we will get in game

And imagine that the only thing holding it back is TRACKS

1982 vintage ones would be pretty bad. Probably not for War Thunder since they were trailer mounted only.

Later models on the tracked launcher would be quite good I think. A choice of EO guidance modes including thermals, quite fast/agile missiles and 8x of them ready to use like the ADATS.

I think it will have a shot deployment time

The 3000m ceiling is not a thing.

The russian missile 9M37M of Strela-10
In the manual they claimed that the missile’s operational range is 5km and ceiling is 3km.
But in game it can hit targets 6.5km away flying at 4km.
Because they “think” “the range in manual is pointless without target information”

Is it common knowledge, that missiles like LMM have 6 dof, or i was supposed to write that?

So, I’ve been flying an airbus A320 for a while but I’m back now.

Is it fixed yet?

Take a guess

Right, off to Ankara from London Gatwick I think.

Honestly gaijin could add anything to the British tech tree, blowpipe, Javelin, rapier etc… It honestly wouldn’t matter, it’ll be just another missile system like the French/German roland, asrad, lvrbv 701, xm975 that’ll go on the pile of crap that’s over shadowed by IR systems because the missile handling is so f***kin bad. The only time those systems hit anything is when the aircraft is played by someone totally obvious and not turning. The only system that’ll help atm would be the Stormer AD, the HVM i don’t think will ever work correctly tbh.
