Neat! Honestly had a hell of a time looking for even a single photo haha
Always loved the weird wing mounted box look of them ingame
Not much better but still an improvement for sure.
Though thats a low bar given the HVMs state
I believe there was some promotional material for the LMM now lists them at 8km+ atleast the last time in checked anyway
I’ve got a few clips of the tracking issue, all of them are on a clear day as well but it is definitely more noticeable on a cloudy/foggy day.
These happened quite a few days ago in different sessions so I am not sure if I still have the CLOG files for them but hopefully they give you an idea of what the bug looks like.
Hmm, ideally I’d still need a CLOG and ingame screenshot to go with that. But I can see what you mean now. I think its the sight has too low contrast between hot and cold. In Thales video on the Starstreak it shows the camera comfortably tracking a Huey which is hot all over compared to the background.
Black = Hot.
If someone can get me a Video Clip + CLOG + Screenshot combo that would help massively in reporting this. The Thales marketing materials should be enough for the justification.
I believe that is the image from the apache tests so this could just be the thermals used by default on the apache.
this is the sight picture the stormer gets.
either way its a higher contrast than what we have currently
If you could provide the source for the photo I could include it.
Starstreak wasn’t carried in service.
IIRC there were lingering concerns about debris from the rocket motors used on the in-service ground-launched missiles that meant Starstreak was a capability that the Apache AH.1s retained, but weren’t part of Apache’s normal operational capability. Apache-specific versions of the missiles weren’t purchased, and crews weren’t trained to engage with Starstreak (outside of simulators at least). But it was expected that all necessary changes would happen if it became necessary for Apache to fire Starstreak operationally.
Similar issues also affected Hellfire, which ultimately meant the AAC advised they were only supposed to be fired from the inner pylons under normal circumstances. But obviously, Hellfire was a necessary capability that was already purchased for the helicopters, and needed to be equipped and fired regardless of the minor damage it might cause. I believe it was something that the US themselves wanted to work on mitigating in later Hellfire variants, so things improved over time in that regard without significant UK funding.
When they were upgraded with Arrowhead, the Apache AH.1s wingtips had additional rear-facing AN/AAR-57 sensors installed. So the ability to mount Starstreak there was kind of superseded by something that was considered more operationally important.
So far as the new AH-64Es are concerned, AFAIK only Korean, Taiwanese and Indian ones retain the capability to equip AAMs on the wingtips. The US dropped requirement for Stinger on Apache and fitted countermeasure systems there instead, and the UK ones were to be to the same baseline standard as the US without further consideration for carrying AAMs.
Ours have AN/AAR-57 sensors there again: this time a more permanent installation than the one that was on the AH.1. Same as the US AH-64Es were delivered with.
However, US ones now sometimes carry an IR countermeasure system in pods with additional MAWS sensors
Thanks for the info.
So if the Apache E ever comes for US/UK it will most likely come with no A2A missile?
Probably will lack A2A unless we can source some evidence of them being used/tested. I’d hope with the 64E we might see better than the 114K but it remains to be seen.
of course my good sir.
High Velocity Missile System - HVM
Apache starstreak missile test
Added bonus - stormer IFF? IFF controls
yesssssss now this the shit I’m talking about. Ill get that reported right now.
If they finally give us AGM-114L (and make them not be a horrible, slow pos like Hellfire is currently), that has proven anti-air capability against helicopters, drones etc. There are sub-variants of the 114L with proximity fuze and frag sleeve to make them more suitable against such targets.
Anything to make Stormer better than it is now is much appreciated.
Man, i realy want this in game. Better resolution camera with ability to see lasers. This would be gamechanging.
Didn’t take as long as I expected to run into this issue again, had 2 examples of it on the second game I had today. Now I have the clips+clog+screenshots, do you want me to write a bug report on this and then link it to you or do you want me to just send them to you here?
Report it and link me, I’m away for a few days but if no one handles it by the time I’m back I’ll get on it.
Hellfires with Proximity fuzes would fill that role somewhat at least in Anti Heli work surely?
I heard AGM-114L-7/8A has a proximity fuze.
