I have tried multiple YT tutorial and done everything they did but it still doesnt work.
When i press change radar/irst mode to tws i wont soft lock anything i have tried almost every altitude from 100 - 5000. Does anybody know what i do wrong or what im missing?
Thank you.
Was your TWS set to a proper range to detect the said aircraft?
You aren’t locking aircraft @ 30km away when your radar is set to 19km…
Just a thought.
As already mentioned check the range and angles and make sure that you bound the „select radar/irst target to lock“
When you set the ranges and angle correct you should see the first enemies pretty quickly.
The box with the cuts in it is a softlock
The solid box line is a hardlock
Depending on the plane you can convert a softlock into a hard one by pressing your „lock radar/irst target“ button.
Phoenix. Fakour and other fox 3 only need softlock.
Aim7 and other normal radar missles need a continious hardlock.
Hope that helps
From reading your message again I think your missing the select target to lock button
wish we could get a screenshot or video recording to see what you see exactly.
Check out DEFYN and TimVariety on YouTube. These two in particular are Supreme WarThunder pilots and have good guides on radar and IR missiles. One thing about your TWS and you didnt mention the plane. You have to watch your radar scope, and watch the lines of the missile heading to target, if it is a dotted line your missile hasnt locked yet. Also, you have to go to Xray mode and hover over your radar to see how many targets your radar can handle at once. I will give you a tip on the Tomcat radar, if you narrow your radar beam it becomes more focused, I believe this is in Controls, “change scope scale”, I change scope scale to the narrowest beam, extend my range to 74km and I almost regularly hit targets at 45 to 50km away on firing, almost one a game. Build the speed of your plane as well, because this gives the missile just that much more energy. Watch DEFYN and TimsVariety on YouTube mate, they have all types of tips, and they both have over 50,000 airkills in very much few flight, these dudes kill 7-9 a match. Good Luck
While we’re talking about TWS, a question myself:
Is there a way to prevent automatic soft lock, or cancel it?
I often am in a situation where my TWS soft locks a contact, and when I turn away from it, the radar stays centered at the soft lock, and doesn’t point anymore at the direction I’m flying or turning to - which would often be the zone I’d be more interested to look at.
Only workaround I’ve found so far is to toggle through SC and SC PD to TWS again…
Use the manual target cue controls.
But if there’s one target, the radar cursor stays on that one even if I use that control (or at least immediately soft locks the same target again), no?
You can move the TDC off the target to un-softlock it.
Will have to try, but I think that didn’t work for me before…
Ok I’ve experimented a bit.
So only with “toggle targets” option deactivated, I can move the cue freely, but then I only can hard lock in TWS, not soft lock.
If I activate the “toggle targets” option, targets are soft locked and tracked automatically, but can not be unlocked. And they can be hard locked of course.
So what I haven’t been able to work is free cueing with the possibility to soft lock… = /
