straight line speed and energy retention doesn’t stop Spitfire Mk 14 from being incredibly strong in BnZ, and neither will it be in the case of Ki-44

That is due to a combination of speed and climb rate, which many other aircraft have.

Yes actually, because if it gets too slow it will be a free kill to subsonics. And in any case, this comparison is terrible since the F-104A is the fastest plane at its BR, the Ki-44-II is not.
