Who cares ? You don’t have to aim, just spray
Balance wise it’s mostly OK at 5.0. Could go up to 5.3 or even 5.7 without sweating much though. It’s basically a larger but faster AMX 13 DCA, or Lvkv 42 (Except with more ammo). The large size is a straight detriment to those tank’s playstyles however, as it’s less able to sneak arond to get the sideshots it needs to make the gun work.
However, it makes absolutely no sense to put it at 5.0 for any other reason. The gun had HE-VT in real life, and if it got that it could fill a much greater AA hole at 7.7 and back up the fairly strong 8.0+ lineup. Plus, another SPAA with HE-VT means another lineup gets something that can actually counter early ATGM helicopters. And the 40mm Bofors is still an effective AT weapon at the tier. Plus it fits better with the historical tanks of the period.
It just makes infinitely more sense to put it at that tier than to awkwardly cram it into 5.0.
- Yet another fast boi infesting lower tiers, making it a miserable experience for all the slow vehicles down there
- Helis don’t get another enemy that can fight them at equal footing
This is basically a win-win situation for Gaijin.
Good, because it’s a friggin AA
All the low tier Bofor L/70 equipped tanks are pretty mid at AA work. In that role, they’re slightly worse than the Ostwind (Marginally slower ROF, slower shells, less protection), but at a substantially higher BR where planes are much faster and the low burst mass really hurts their ability to land shots. Plus, with the Lvkv specifically, you’re out of ammo after a few longer bursts.
AAs can be balanced as hybrid AA/AT weapon platforms (Falcon), or even as specialized AT weapons (ZSU-57-2). Just because an AA is able to engage tanks effectively doesn’t mean that it should go up to a tier where it can’t engage either tanks or aircraft effectively.
It underlines another problem with WT at 4.0 BR it is OP at 5.0 OK and 6BR useless.Like so many ill conceived vehicles jammed in to fill a gap that was always going to be there when the nation was created.
Well then don’t add AAs that can’t do AA work.
Yes it means that they should go up in BR as the core mechanic of this game is aiming and making your shot count. The game is ruined by autocannons that just spray and pray while you missed your only shot or just broken a track/engine.
Just like the Wirbelwind before rounds/belts got changed and volumetric added. That thing used to be a beast TD, though at least it is still considered a very good SPAA (as long as you play long enough to not stay in spawn and spray at targets 2-3km away.
I like it better than the Ostwind, maybe because it’s more forgiving to a relatively inexperienced SPAA user in terms of precision required.
Yes so now keep this on and add potent SPAA that don’t ruin the game of every single light tank
If it is pure AP you have more survivability, at least for mid. I still had a lot of trouble getting kills against M18s in the Sub I II by not picking the perfect spots quick enough.
Then you get that Chinese 4.something SPAA and when I got to the side (but not close) of a group of Panthers and Tigers I was immediately surprised at how they all went up in rapid succession.
BTR-80A is vastly superior to a 5mm armor open topped Bofors.
BTR-80A is at 7.3, this is at 5.0.
But, Italian vehicle is also more mobile and can turn much better, while also having much better gun handling. It’s worthy to note that it has hull strong enough to stop some APHE at it’s BR.
On the other hand, BTR has a bit more ammo and faster rate of fire.
I don’t think those two vehicles should be that far apart in BR.
BTR-80 is smaller, more armored, superior turret design, scouting, smoke grenades.
BTR-80 is also known to be over-BR’d currently.
Why are you comparing a Soviet wheeled light vehicle to a tracked, SPAA gun?
I’m not, others did.
I’m just responding to those that did compare.
Seems like they’re pretty neck and neck, trading blows between each other. Having this much of a difference in BRs between them isn’t good.
BTR-80 was going to be 5.7 with R3-T20 penetration & slightly more protection with worse mobility.
The fact it’s 7.3 is honestly just annoying cause I would’ve loved it at 5.7 even tho I stopped playing the R3-T20 the moment it became 4.0, I played it when it was 3.7.
I didn’t want to use it as anti-air, but boy oh boy were the players that continued playing it from 4.0 onward great anti-air drivers.
Its SPAA capability pushed it from 4.0 all the way to 5.7, and that’s wild.
R3 was busted at 3.7, zooming around slow tanks while fully stabilized and great rate of fire. No wonder it got pushed up significantly.
That being said, I don’t think 40/70 deserves to be 5.0, just like BTR doesn’t deserve to be at 7.3.
