Why HQ11 rockets ignoring Flares\Chaff?

Why do HQ11 missiles keep tracking me even when the radar is behind rocks? I turned off my afterburner and deployed flares and chaff, but the missile still maintained its lock, even out of the radar’s line of sight. Is this a bug? And what is the best way to dodge these missiles?

You need to descend to a higher altitude and maintain an angle between the 3 o’clock and 9 o’clock positions relative to the direction from which the missile is coming, usually 90 degrees.

The FM-3000 is an ARH (active radar homing) missile. In order to defeat it you either have to use the terrain, go cold or notch.

  • There is a thing called multipathing where missiles get confused when you fly close to the ground (<60 meters AGL). A big enough warhead will still damage / kill you.

  • Going cold means that you fly away from the missile. Only works when you have enough distance from the missile already and if its burn time is short. Aka not useful for against the FM3000 in your case.

  • Notching means that you put the missile at a perpendicular angle to yourself. Only then your chaff will have any influence on it. IOG and datalink can still make the missile guide towards you so make sure the HQ11s TADS can’t see you anymore.

This is not a notching angle:

Thank you for the explanation. I was under the impression that these missiles engaged an IR seeker once the launch platform lost its lock. I wasn’t aware they were equipped with their own active radar.

Right now there are very few ground launched IR missiles ingame. (IRIS-T SLM / SLS, CS/SA5). You don’t need to memorise them. Just remember that when you see the MSL warning on your radar warning receiver that it is ARH.
